Windows XP not detecting ipod.

I think i have the 3rd Gen iPod (the one with the buttons above the wheel).

I bought a belkin PCMCIA Firewire card for my laptop which said i could connect my ipod to it. I have installed the card without any problems, however when i plug in the ipod it is not recognised by the PC at all. It does not charge it, i cannot see it in My Computer or Itunes and i cannot update using the updater as it does not see it.

I have read the guide at the top of the page but still no luck, any suggestions?

I have the same problem.

it was like everything stopped working overnight and as i've been reading it seems to be itunes 5.0.1 that is driving everyone crazy, including me. i am ready to kill someone at apple for this (but not really, i just want my ipod to work on my computer again!)

so i tried toonz' solution (didn't work) and phrenck's solution (didn't work) and i also tried to downgrade back to itunes 4.9 but my ipod is still not recognized at all. i think maybe it's because my ipod was recently updated with the 2005-09-03 updater? i don't know. i have a 20 GB 4th gen ipod and i'd like to get this problem resolved ASAP since my warranty expires on 10/18 and i'm debating whether or not to go in to get a replacement.

thanks for any help. =p

My ipod works fine with my desktop but y laptop will not recognise it as either a mass storage device or an ipod. I have windows XP sP2 with a brand new install of everything, i have made sure that windows is supplying the device power as it suggests in apples support topics, i have installed and re-installed every piece of ipod software on the machine and it still won't recognise it. I have a 4th generation ipod and have never had problems connecting it to any of my other pc's or laptops or anybody elses. As this is now my main machine for on the move it is infuriating me that i cannot access the music on it.
