Headphone jack really sensitive

When I have some headphones plugged in or something, the plug is super sensitive to pulls. If the cable gets pulled the slightest amount backward, the sound cuts out. It's really annoying. Tips? Will Apple fix it?

Thanks!

I have the same problem that everyone is describing. It makes using my laptop on a couch with headphones impossible. Brought it in to the local Apple authorized repair place, who essentially told me I was an idiot. Had to go back with my pro headphones to show them the problem. So finally they took the laptop in, and replaced the logicboard. Assured me the problem was fixed. I got it to happen again within 30 seconds in front of them. Their answer: "well obviously your headphones are using a non-standard plug."

To anyone who thinks that it's exactly the same plug as the iPhone/iPod Touch: you're wrong. I have two iPhones (1st gen, and 3G), and use these headphones on them regularly. Never a problem.

Have this problem on a unibody MBP Oct 08 Build 9G55 - headphone jacks need to be pushed in v firmly and then allowed to ease back out a little to get headphones/speakers to work -connection after that seems good and not prone to dropout with slight bumps or tugs on mine

thought it was just mine - so glad i saw this thread before i got round to sending it in for repair !

Hi, royalstark. I'm just one data point, but my son has Bose headphones, and they work perfectly with my MBP. So do my own JVC HA-S700 headphones. I've encountered none of the problems discussed here, with either headset or with my external speakers. My headphone port works just fine, and yours may too.

I purchased a MBP 2 weeks ago from Apple Store Chatswood, Australia - I use my audio out frequently. So After much research and experiencing the problems myself (like mid- presentation at a conference!), I took it back. We plugged my 4 different headsets ranging from cheap to apple to +$400, same problem on every MBP in the store - we tested them all as well as cracking open to new boxes. So the problem remains unresolved and would appear to get worse the more you persist. There business manager has been great and is now in liaison with Cupertino re: what are we dealing with this. However, knowing that this probably will not be reached, I'm not sure how to resolve this - they are happy to give me a full refund - but I want a mac NOT A PC, just a mac with an audio out which works everytime. Where do we go next??? I have left feedback on the apple site

Hi, stat71. I offer the following suggestion as a temporary expedient for anyone who really wants to have a MBP but can't make the audio-out work properly, and has no confidence that exchanging the machine now will improve matters. While awaiting Apple's permanent resolution, buy a Griffin iMic USB sound card and connect your headphones/speakers/other audio devices to it instead of the built-in headphone jack.

Of course this will only work for analog audio out.
