Restore iTunes media from external harddrive

Greetings all. I recently reformatted my hard drive. I backed up my wife's iTunes
media to our external hard drive following the directions on this website. I am
unable to find information on how to restore the media. I made an attempt by importing the file from the hard drive, but it did not show up in iTunes. I am
running XP. Thanks in advance for your help.

Which exact directions did you follow? There are several ways to do backups.

I followed the instructions under "Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive". I consolidated the library and then copied it to the
external hard drive. Thanks for the reply

If I understand those directions correctly, you should have an ITL file sitting on your exHD. Just press *and hold* the shift key while starting itunes. When prompted, browse to the exHD and choose the ITL file there.
