recycle betacam (and other) tapes

Hello all,
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place that will take used betacam sp tapes and recycle them. Either degaussing them, and reselling them as used, or processing them properly and recycling the plastic and metal bits. We've got probably 800 tapes in our archive that we have determined will never be needed again. We don't shoot betacam sp anymore, so we don't have a need to store them anymore.
Any ideas?

Back when beta and d-beta cost an arm and a leg, there were several. Now, I dunno. It does seem gross just to toss them.

I'd call tape resources and see what they know. Or find a community college or other institution that might want them, for a modest tax write off.

I like this suggestion. There are to many wierd, possibly toxic elements in those tapes to simply put them in the dumpster.

There are a few companies that accept old media (tapes, CD's, etc.) for quite nominal charge or sometimes for free. You can Google around. Here at work we are just packing up a few boxes of old backup floppies, tapes and ribbons and sending them over to Lacerta.
