Voice memos in garage band---warp speed

I just got an Ipod and an Italk recording device because I want to be able to record interviews and then edit them together with songs from Itunes and other music i create in GarageBand.
I can successfully get my interviews into my Itunes library and when I go to transport them into a track in GarageBand, they go...but they play at a very fast (chipmunks like) speed.
I called Apple and they said they can only help with getting material ONTO the Ipod and not OFF OF it. I don't understand this but, whatever.
Any help ...please?? I got the Ipod and recording thing to be able to do just this...
