If not, i suggest contacting Apple support as waiting until you iPod falls out of your pocket may be impractical.
I have tried all the resetting steps as outlined in the troubleshooting section of the website...still nothing. The Apple logo flashes faintly for a second, then disappears. I can still listen to the music...it's just the display that's not working.

Have you read through your user manual (or the online user manual) in reference with resetting your iPod? the manual gives a few techniques you can use which generally do work.

I have the 3 generation 40GB iPod and I have to squeeze the sides to get the display to come on. I've also had to hit it against my hand. The sound is fine, just the display isn't. It may be out of replacement warranty though that I had with Best Buy.
Seems like the iPod software restore did the trick. I wonder how long this will last. I wish Apple had a trade in value on these things. I would love to have a photo iPod!

This seems to be the trick! Squeeze the sides of the iPod together just below the bottom of the screen... the text will reappear, then disappear. If you do it two or so more times it stays on. Clearly something to do with a bad connector; but ****, at least it works.
Good thing, too, as I'm leaving for two weeks to China and was about to give up on taking my trusty iPod with me!

Im having the same problem now, its a 30GB. I can scroll threw songs fine and see then all, but when i click to play a song and it where it should go to where you see the song name, title, time left and all, it is blank, except for a little black dot in the center.
I've had the same problem. Just went blank one day last week. Music still plays. Tried pressing on side and front case. Pressing just below buttons (I have G3) seems to have fixed it. I'm still under warrantee, but I suppose if I send it in now that its working, they'll say there's nothing wrong with it.
Did you ever find a solution? I have two issues: (1) music plays slow and garbled, and (2) no screen.
I have the same issue. Out of nowehere, I lost the screen and the music plays all slow and garbled. However, I do have the ability to have the backlighting come up (like when you hold down menu to light the thing up), but I still cannot read the screen--there's nothing on it! It just lights up a blank screen.

My 4th gen. 20GB just did the same thing (3 days after the warranty expired) Initially the death started with a blank screen and a backlight. This progressed to no backlight after I tried a Menu/select reset. I then connected the Ipod to my G4 with a Firewire and tried a recharge for a few hours. Nothing. After that, I tried the restore. Still nothing. No apple logo -Nothing. It does play just fine, and I can control it through I-tunes. I am currently trying a recharge with the AC adapter. Any other suggestions??
I too am getting the error message others have posted on this site;
"Attempting to copy to the disk 'XXXXXXXXX'S IPOD' failed. The disk could not be read from or written to".
I have same problem, including a screen problem. I can only do a partial update of songs (~3 GB) before I get the error. The iPod is the only FW device connected directly to my Mac.
The screen issue is confusing. The screen works fine when connected to the computer. It also displays the charging icon when attached to the charger. But when I try to navigate the menu system the screen goes blank until I select a sub folder. The screen briefly displays the animation moving to the sub folder then goes blank again. When playing songs, the display flickers faintly.
I restored factory settings using iPod updater 2005-6-26 and use iTunes 5.0.
I will try the new 2005-9-23 updater and iTunes 5.0.1
10 GB iPod touch wheel.
Help!

Try a restore. Load the iPod updater and plug in your iPod then click restore.
No problem. That is wierd. Hope it doesn't happen again.
Turning the contrast up seems a possible cause, as I have mine up moderately high as well... anyone else having this problem also mess with their contrast?
I just recently had this problem too. I opened up the ipod and unplugged & then replugged the battery. That seemed to fix it without any problem.
just out of curiosity... what iPod was it? mine is an older 30GB that all of a sudden the screen stopped working. any info would help
thanks
