Buying iPhone in Mexico for use in U.S.?

Howdy. This is my first post. At the moment, I'm enjoying a long vacation in Oaxaca, Mexico. It occurred to me that perhaps I could buy an iPhone 3G down here (cheaply), then return to the U.S. and activate it under an A.T.T. contract.

1. Impossible?
2. Can do, but not without hacks?
3. Can do, no problem. (If so, any special tips on purchasing in Oaxaca?)

Thanks!
Peter

i'm gonna take a stab at this and say, most likely not. if its anything like it is here in the US, it'll be carrier locked to Telcel, which is the exculsive carrier for Mexico. and even if you could get it "cheaply", it would probably require you sign a 2 year contract, with Telcel.

and if you can get it "cheaply" from pablo off the street, well then, thats up to you. but for $199 for the 8GB is "cheap" enough for me, along with the peace of mind that i'll have a legit working phone with a 1 year warranty.
