VLC- sleep mode?

Does anyone know if there is there a way to allow the screen to sleep while playing VLC and still get the sound? I'm new to Macs and used to be able to do this on my PC. I can't figure out how to get the screen to stay in "sleep mode" and continue to play VLC with sound only. Thanks!
