Adobe Photoshop 7.0 not working on OSX 10.5

My Photoshop 7.0 is not working on my new Macbook with OSX 10.5. I receive this error message:
"An unexpected and unrecoverable problem has occurred because of a a program error. Photoshop will now exit."

I tried reinstalling it but still get the same error. Is it not compatible with the new OS?

Photoshop Elements 6 runs fine in 10.5.5. Photoshop CS1 will also run, pretty much (there are a few annoying little glitches here and there) but is not supported by Adobe on Leopard. It costs 200 bucks to upgrade from CS1 to CS4, and a small fortune to upgrade from PS7. If you shop around you can get Elements 6 for around $70. Unless there is some compelling reason you absolutely must have the full version, you will discover Elements will do all sorts of great things PS7 doesn't do, and likely everything you truly need--for instance, I mainly use it to prepare things for the Internet, and Elements does all that is necessary, from opening RAW photos and processing them, to optimizing the jpegs for web pages. Without knowing what you are doing it is impossible to say what it is you will need to buy.

And, with a VERY steep learning curve, you can do many of the things Photoshop does with the free GIMP, running in X11.

Francine, thank you for answering the very simple question I had about whether or not Photoshop Elements 6 was compatible with 10.5.5. I spent hours on the phone today with Adobe, being transferred around and trying to get a straight answer. I never got one from Adobe. The same thing happened when I called Apple. I realize that Apple is not the manufacturer, but hoped they might have an answer because they sell the software and should know if it works with their current OS. Since the system requirements on Adobe's and Apple's websites still say it only works with systems up to 10.5.2, sales and technical support people just read that back. I can read the same specs too, but I realize that 10.5.5 is new and that it is possible that they just may not have updated the info on the web or in their scripts to reflect this. Apparently, actual users like you and several others are saying it works fine with no issues. It's really nice to know how easy it is to find answers here when you can't get the help or answers you need from the manufacturer. It seems like all they do is read a script, and even supervisors just don't want to be bothered. They should realize that 10.5.5 is the current OS since mid-September, and if they don't provide accurate info then people won't know whether or not to purchase the software. I was hesitant because I didn't want to waste the money to find out if it would or would not work. But now that I see others are using PSE 6 without a problem in 10.5.5, I have the answers I need and I feel more confident about buying the software.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions.

If that’s all you’ve been doing with Photoshop then you’ve been paying well, well over the odds for that.

You can scan with Image Capture, tweak and make jpgs with iPhoto, all of which are free on your Mac.

But yes, Elements will scan, tweak and make jpegs. As someone once said Elements is 85% of the power for 15% of the price of the full sized big brother.

Wow~! Thanks for the lightning reply! But I am in the pitch dark here (and an experienced Mac user). Previously, I'd open PS, open scanner which would open my Epson Scanner window, scan into PS, tweak, name - and I'd be done.

How do I do the same but have the scanner operate in Image Capture?

When I go to open Image Capture, it prompts me to open iPhone.

I'm lost. And really bummed out I dropped all this cash and can't do what I need to do to make my ebay living.
