Can't purchase? There is not enough memory available. There was an error in

I just started getting this error tonight from the itunes store. It works fine until I try to purchase a song and then I get this message:

"Could not purchase "song name". There is not enough memory available.
There was an error in the Itunes store. Please try again later."

I tried restarting computer, etc but that didn't help. I am using an older version of itunes (7.5.0.20?). Could this be the problem?
Does anyone know how to fix this or what is causing it?

But that's the problem. Every time I try and download the iTunes 8 it says that VBScript is not working and iTunes requires QuickTime and blahblahblah. I tried the support section, I tried contacting them, I basically did everything I could and I still have the same problem. So I'm pretty mad about it, and the fact that now I can't download my music.

Again, I've been having the same problem where I cannot download anything. Because of the memory thing, I prompted myself to delete two tv shows I had bought... becuz I thought I would instantly be able to by the new tv show right away. instead of saving them or putting them on my back-up hard drive because that was full, I just erased it, stupid in retrospect. I thought my computer was out of memory because of it said there was an error, not enough memory, try itunes soon. THEN, I went out and spent a hundred dollars to buy more MEMORY for my computer! When I got through following the manual and installing it and found out it was still giving me the same message? Then i felt upset.

I'm personally mad because Wed/Thursday are my FAVORITE show nights... and I don't own a TV or care to, but have gotten addicted to this stupid routine of watching the ones i do like as soon as they appear on itunes. I pay 2 dollars for each show (plus major credit card interest, lol) and they can't even fix it? I can't update like a few people did even if I wanted to, and I too am SO sick of their updates. If it works, why do they break it?

I've got to say, people in charge now are always hire consulting firms or people to change things to make it "better" when it was perfect in the first place. We get used to a system working a certain way, and when it is different and supposed to be better, it's always this sacrifice between figuring out how to work the new program and seeing if there is anything that is "better" (usually if there is something better it isn't worth the change) and missing the old one. It's sort of like when a supermarket rearranges everything. Suddenly, the apples are where the books were, and the milk is next to the cereal instead of the cheese. I hate when they do that. It's a marketing gimmick to make us less competent so that it takes us longer to shop. And in computer terms, it makes us want what they are giving us more. People were willing to call 1800 numbers, I was willing to spend a hundred bucks to buy extra memory because I thought I didn't have enough..

I am so sick of how this culture is obsessed with change. What we need to remember is that there are models that work, and maybe we should sometimes replicate them or try to make it work based on what did work instead of thinking change is the answer to EVERY single thing or error. I don't think Itunes has a clue (despite all these customer feedback things) of what we liked or like best.

I hope they fix it really soon.

Well, it's a small comfort to know that I'm not the only one with this problem! It worked perfectly up until last night. I did the same thing as everyone else -- deleted some songs, deleted some other stuff out of my Recycle Bin, defragged my computer -- no luck. I've heard others say that they were only able to download songs once they upgraded to iTunes 8.0. Is this update compatible with Windows XP? I don't want to have to upgrade to Windows Vista just to access the latest version of iTunes. Talk about "planned obsolescence"! Ah well, at least the customer support who replied to my e-mail was pleasant. Here's hoping they get this problem fixed SOON!
