Really disappointed after applying firmware 2.2 that the 2G iPod Touch still skips when playing apple lossless while screen is off.

I would not expect Apple to announce it, but perhaps one of us customers who is watching this thread might.
So there is a nice diff in quality between lossless and say 320kb/sec right? That's why I'm hesitant to convert from Lossless.
Bump

Thanks for this temporary solution. I'm planning on installing something in my new car (a 2008 IS 350 in case anyone cares) in the next few days which will let me both listen to music off my 2g iPod Touch 32gb AND watch movies off the nav screen. I also paid a little extra for the charging cable. So if I have that, then I don't have to worry about battery being drained while I'm using my iPod in my car.
wow, even .wav files are skipping? does anyone know exactly why this is happening? what the difficulty is in programming that makes lossless and wav files not work properly. Are these the only types of files that skip?
Same problem here. Just bought an iPod Touch and found the dropout problem when playing Apple Lossless. Very disappointing since being able to use lossless compression is one of the main reasons why I bought it. Already sent a bug report but because of all the time it has passed without a solution it seems that Apple either just ignores it because they regard lossless users as a small group or maybe they can't solve it without a hardware modification and admitting it would push them to do a massive recall... if it is a hardware problem probably they will just ignore the user complains and fix it on the next iPod Touch 3G.
Perhaps it is time to spread the information, with user comments below the reviews on Zdnet, Cnet, MacWorld and other such sites. I read all the glowing reports on the device prior to purchase, and based the decision to purchase on the reviews. However, these sites should report the bad along with the good. Had I know lossless did not work properly I would have not purchased the device.
I cannot believe this is a hardware issue. The current generation of iPod touch certainly must have more of a buffer and faster CPU than the iPod classic? My iPod classic does not have this issue.
Maybe Apple will take notice, and maybe even fix the bug in a timely manner, if the word spreads beyond these forums.

ah, you can bet that Apple knows that lossless files have issues with the Touch. Now whether or not that translates to a software fix, remains to be seen. In the meantime, you can convert all your files to AAC's with one command, no matter how many thousands you have in iTunes.
I have already converted to AAC. Honestly, I'm not fond of maintaining two sets of files in iTunes. I use smart lists to manage them, but it's just more overhead. Also, I use really good earphones and can hear the difference (in a quiet listening situation).
An update (2.2.1) was just posted that specifically lists the Apple Lossless skipping issue as fixed.
