Yesterday, I went all day (12 hours that is) without recharging. Last night I upgraded to 2.2. Today, after being off the charger for 4 hours, it is down to 20%. Anyone else seeing a decrease in battery life since going to 2.2?
Some good news of sorts: I have been contacted by Apple support, which at least means our complaints are not going unheard. Hopefully the logs will show something.
Cheers, this might indeed be useful for travelling.
Still I believe a phone should not drain in less than 4 hours stand by. We need to dig this problem out.
I have also been contacted by Apple. They have me installing a little utility that is supposed to help them see the battery usage. I have installed it, and will be sending them the logs as soon as my battery gets low ( which should be very soon). I will update when I learn something.
No - I have noticed an increase in time since 2.2, and I have everything on and running pretty much all the time. I get two 12-16 hour workdays out of a charge, and I use it most of the day. I don't text much, don't play games, surf, or and IMS. I do email a lot, use my Air Share to work with files, and of course I use it as Phone more than anything.
Woah! Two full days of work! I never had that much. I need to be careful to make sure the phone lasts until the end of the day. I thought this was normal but if you get Two days then why not me? Do you switch it off at night? do you stop push and 3G? du you stop GPS?
I have the same issue. I was about the bring it back to the store, but maybe I should hold out?
At the moment, my phone is down to 20% after less than 2 hours of usage. But actually I only used it for 30 minutes. The phone indicates 2 hours but this is clearly wrong. I have 1 MM account and 1 Gmail account (fetch every 30 minutes), but this can never explain the 1h30 difference in usage.
I have not noticed the phone getting hot. Will definitely do that now.
I put it to sleep when I'm not using it, and I shut the phone off when I turn in for the night - it's off for about 4 hours each day, when I'm out of town. When I'm home I always have it plugged in to the charger. It does last for longer than two full days, but I'm rarely away from the charger for all that long - I sometimes forget to shut it off, or put it on charge.
I mainly use it for email, calendar and a phone, and I sync it all with MobileMe automatically, the other stuff doesn't really interest me all that much, but I do use the other toys from time to time. GPS no - what's the point. I have a huge navigation unit in my car.
I've yet to run it down past 25% to go, and it's been a joy to own and use.
Just throwing my two cents in as well, same issue, serious battery drain, when I woke up had full charge (6am) by 11am it was 20% warning... recharged at work and now is back to 20%... just updated to 2.2 yesterday. I am going to follow the advice of those that mentioned to be sure to be on home screen before lock, I am pretty sure I had left it on a loading safari page before this last drain.
I've got a 3G iPhone and I've had a similar battery drainage problem since the 2.2 upgrade, although the phone was not getting hot.
I shut down Safari as opposed to just switching to the Home screen as recommended in a previous post, and this seems to have restored battery life to pre-upgrade levels.
Battery drain issues here as well! Upgraded 2 iphones to 2.2 on Monday, 11.24.08 and at least 1 of them has dropped to 10% battery life twice (1 of the 2 instances was a complete battery discharge) already (within 48 hours of updagrade).
Normal routine for this phone is to be charged (complete) as soon as either 10% or 20% dialog shows. Normally this happens every 48 hours. The phone is turned OFF every evening around midnight and turned back on @ 8:00am the following morning. Normal process for turning off is to move to HOME screen prior to power down... Very peculiar...
