Battery drain since upgrading to 2.2

Yesterday, I went all day (12 hours that is) without recharging. Last night I upgraded to 2.2. Today, after being off the charger for 4 hours, it is down to 20%. Anyone else seeing a decrease in battery life since going to 2.2?

Also...

I turn the phone off at night, not stand-by, off. It would be great if the phone could be charged while off, but that doesn't seem to be possible.

I understand how disabling some potential power-hungry features can help, but to what end? I can just keep the phone off all day and that should do well by the battery. I bought the phone for 3G, Edge is completely useless, and would rather not have to restore the device. I had to do a restore when 2.1 came out, to fix those issues. Today was the perfect test as I did not use the phone at all except for a couple of texts and some e-mail.

Note to self: Do not upgrade the iPhone's firmware...

You can charge the phone when it's off. You just have to plug it into the charger first then turn it off. If you turn it off and then plug it in it restarts. But once it's plugged in it can be turned off and continue to charge.

this update is horrible - it has literally rendered my iphone useless overnight. I disconnect my phone from the charger... use the ipod for about 45 mins on my commute.... NO APPS then on standby and by 11am my phone is @ 10%!! With the 2.1 update my battery with 3g on, wifi on, fetch on would last me from 6am till 11pm with HEAVY usage including massive txt messaging, email, apps and data. This is a major problem for me as my phone is basically no longer a wireless device. I will give it until the end of the week to see if somehow it improves but if not i will beg borrow and steal to try and get 2.1 back on. My wife is ready to get an iphone this jan but it 2.2 stays like this theres no way - truly unfortunate - i have faith though after seeing how much of a difference 2.1 made for the battery - theyll get it right

ps - the back of my phone is ON FIRE

Same problem. With 3G off it is pretty good, but once 3G is on ... My battery, fully charged, was half-empty after just 5 minutes (!!!) of surfing the net. With 3G off it lasts about 2-3 days (I'm not a heavy user, but I play games and listen to music quite a lot). I hope this issue is resolved soon!

Yep, worse battery under 2.2, I preferred 2.1 overall. 2.2 is laggy, and viewing wide emails is awful, I now need to scroll two directions instead of one. What's with wasting dev time on voicemail quality? I don't know of anyone complaining about that - I'd trade the old voicemail quality for text forwarding ability any day

Where are my emojicons too?

I agree with you on the battery issue, but I actually find 2.2 more responsive. There is still a huge lag when entering SMS or Settings though.

Overall, I find call quality of the iPhone 3G quite bad. It is much worse than my 5 year old Sony Ericsson. It's like the sound is too loud for the speaker causing deformations and hissing.

Today I quit safari by holding the home button, and my battery is still fine. It's at 70% after 1h34 of usage. However, I did not use any 3G so it's too early to tell...
