Trackpad Not Working after Firmware Update

Have now had my new Macbook Pro for a month now without any problems, very happy with it after taking ages to decide to go to mac from pc.

Recently received a firmware update for the trackpad which I installed and now trackpad doesn't work at all. It was working fine before this update and with an external mouse I can still use the computer.

Spoken to support who have been very helpful and tried to solve problem in various ways but to no avail. I have now today taken the notebook to an Apple centre near to my home in Nice, France for repair where they will hopefully call me next week to collect.

Anyone have any experience of this problem themselves?

Also I just read somewhere that I should have taken the notebook back to my supplier (although not so easy as I bought it in London) for replacement rather than have it repaired. Any opinions on this ?

Eventually after 2 weeks of non repair in the Apple Centre in France I retrieved it and took it back to the store in London where I bought it.
After several dozen phone calls between myself, Apple Customer Relations and the store itself they have finally replaced the unit. I collected it last week and everything is working fine, after updates etc too.
Lets hope it stays that way as its been extremely frustrating not to mention expensive logistically.

One thing - When pressing shift for the pound sign above the number 3 it comes up with the # sign. Any ideas why and how it can be sorted?

Thanks
