Keychain—access to this item is restricted

In Keychain, when I select "show password" on any item, I get a popup window stating " access to this item is restricted ". I hand entered all of the Keychain files. (no transfer.) They worked one night. Now they're all locked up. Has anyone figured this out?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

This fixed my problem.

MacBook5,1 running 10.6.1 could not access WiFi. Encountered "access to this item is restricted" when trying to view password in keychain access. Repaired keychain using keychain first aid. Rebooted (for good measure). Did not fix problem. Noticed date had been reset to 31 Dec 2000. Using wired ethernet connection, unchecked then rechecked "set date and time automatically" in date and time panel. Date reset immediately. Access to WiFi and password via keychain immediately available.

Repair Permissions, and use Keychain Access to repair your keychains.

Same here,

This is on a brand new Macbook Pro that I synced from .Mac (my user account is fresh too, didn't transfer from a previous Mac)

This is a spectacularly unhelpful suggestion if you don't know the original passwords, and are trying to work-around what seems increasingly obvious to be a User Interface bug in the Apple Keychain.

Same issue here. This is a major issue. I have seen many posts about this and no REAL answers.

I had the same problem with retrieving the password for my AirPort Express. The thing that fixed it was unlocking the "System" keychain (my "login" keychain was already unlocked).
