Remote does not work correctly after update

I'd love to hear a response on this as I'm having the exact same problem. Repeatable, and if I factory restore the AppleTV it works fine, then if I upgrade again, the problem comes back. This is definately a software issue with 2.3.

Any comments Apple?

I'm guessing that update 2.3 is the problem. The last poster's experience along with others has made this clear. How can we prompt Apple into release a 2.3.1 update to resolve the problem. It is extremely frustrating, yet throwing a brick at the unresponsive box won't solve the problem any better than repeatedly exchanging the hardware or restoring the factory defaults. All solutions are expensive for Apple and consumers except for a software update. So, how do we get Apple's attention?

I tried reseating the HDMI cable, which did not resolve the problem. I'm frustrated enough that I bought a new very high-end, expensive HDMI cable and that didn't resolve the problem either. So, I restored the factory settings and the problem goes away. The problem is with the 2.3 update. Apple, fix the software, please.

Yep. Same problem here. Set it up to work with my Samsung remote, which will hopefully prove reliable, but the apple tv remote itself is quite maddening to use after the update. Works when it feels like it. I have 2 remotes and it is the same thing for both of them.

I have absolutely no remote functionality so cant even pair a third party one

still....................still................waiting for the fix from apple.
2.3 is the cause of this problem and my ATV is as good as useless ever since the update.
why wont they fix this right away with so many complaints?????

My ATV also goes to the software update screen about 30 seconds after it boots up, anyone else getting this?

same problem here. After upgrading to 2.3 the Apple Remote (as well as the tv remote which I had paired to work with my ATV) are not working properly.
When I wake up the ATV the remote responds once every 10-20 times and, when it does, the white led on the ATV flashes.
My workaround is to wake up the ATV (it always wakes up quickly) and to leave it there for 15-20 minutes without using it: when I get back both the Apple remote and the 3rd party remote work fine.

Hope Apple will fix this issue...

had to delete the app, then redown loaded it, then it worked fine.

Count me on the list as well. I have 2 AppleTV's and one of them does it and the other doesn't. I tried restoring to factory and that fixed the issue. Updating to 2.3 immediately makes the remote not work all the time. Sometimes I have to hit the button 15-20 times before I get a reaction. It doesn't seem to matter if I hold the remote right in front of the sensor stand across the room. Very annoying!

My solution was to completely power cycle the Apple TV. Remove the power cable and reinsert.
