Error writing to file

As noted in the message, make sure you have Read/Write privileges to that folder and file and that they are not marked Read Only.

I am having almost the same issue, but mine says.. error writing to file : c:\programfiles\itunes\itunesminiplayer.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory. ever since I tried the upgrade I had this issue and now I have uninstalled itunes and cant even reinstall it. I am thinking there is somthing wrong with version 8.02 which ****** me off because this is a big headache, have you found any fix to this yet? any help would be appreciated!

it is marked read only for some reason, and everytime i try to unclick it, it tells me to select subfolders and what not and hit continue, when I do I get an error saying I dont have access to that, even though I am the admin. I am not really sure how to fix it, i mean right clicking going to props then unclicking read only doesnt work.

Make sure you also have Read/Write permissions to that folder and all files in it.

when I uncheck the "read only" box I and hit apply i get the vista admin thing to click continue to, then once i do that i get this ...

an error occurred applying attributes to the file:
c:/program files (86) adob...\acroRdif.dll
access denied

my options are:
ignore, ignore all, try again, cancel

if i click ignore, i have to click it 1 million times cause of so many files, if i do ignore all it finishes, and when i check the properties again the "read only" box is checked again for some reason

when i click on the securities tab all of the permission are unchecked as well, and when i try to edit them, they are all greyed out so i cant. but if i check the hard drive itself from "my computer" all everything is check in the securities tab.

btw, i have vista 64-bit

Okay.
You need to take ownership of the folder and files and then check/change the permissions and Read only.

Have you tried running a disk check?

In XP, not about Vista
Go to My Computer, right click on the c: drive and select properties>>tools>>error checking.

Sometimes you get this kind of message when a file has become corrupt.

If there is still a problem, maybe try a repair install of iTunes?

chris, i F'ing love you, it worked! your a champ! , im not sure why this was an issue as I have never had a problem with my folders like this until now, maybe in a few weeks or so I will backup and reformat to make sure it all works good, and have no future issues, but thank you so much buddy!

Windows is kinda messed up in how permissions are carried over when you copy from one location to another.
The IT dept at my work didn't even know bout this until we were talking and one of them overheard us and explained it.

I am having a very similar problem. I tried to update to version 8.02 using the Apple Software Update tool and it seemed to finish far too quickly and when I checked it had only installed the latest Quicktime and not Itunes. When I tried to install it manually it got almost all the way through then I got a message like the above about not being able to write to ituneshelper.exe.

I have tried manually uninstalling the old version, completely deleting the whole itunes folder, changing the read/write permissions, I even tried installing it in safe mode but then forgot that the Windows installer service doesn't work in safe mode.

All those methods resulted in the same error message.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 32bit SP1 with all updates and driver updates installed.

Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. My message says:

I am an admin and I've tried the link posted by Chris but it still won't let my do anything to that specific file. It says the file is corrupted and readable. I've tried previously to uninstall then reinsatll and nothing has worked.
Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Time to run CHKDSK and see if it can be repaired.

It's not a problem with the disk - although I did run chkdsk anyway and there were no errors. It's weird really, if I uninstall it completely, the folder is deleted so it's obviously not a permissions thing. If i then reinstall, it gets to the same point and throws up the same error - always with ituneshelper.exe.

MrFawlty, have you tried installing itunes withOUT using Apple Software Update?
What's the exact error message you get from an itunes install?
