How to compare songs on iTunes to songs on iPod?

When I update the songs on my iPod with the songs in the library of my iTunes, after it is done, there is a message that comes up saying "some songs such as ---- could not be updated because they won't play on this iPod". Is there any way to see what songs these are?
Also, a related question:
I notice the number of songs on the iPod doesn't match the number of songs in iTunes (there are less songs on the iPod). Is there any way I can compare to see what songs are missing from the iPod?

Thanks

Weezie

I may be wrong, but it sounds like you've got some music in your iTunes library that was purchased from the iTunes Music Store, but the computer that you're using to sync with your iPod isn't authorized to play those songs. I'd start with the example song in the error message you're getting. Make sure you can play it in iTunes.

Since an iPod can only sync with one computer, once you authorize the computer to play the song, every song purchased with that account will be able to load onto your iPod and the messages will go away. And your number of songs in your library and on your iPod should match again.

Many of the songs were not purchased from iTunes, but instead are from my CD collection that I have saved onto my computer and am trying to transfer to my iPod. They play fine on my computer. I was just trying to figure out what songs they were without having to manually compare the lists. I'm not sure whether it could be just the wrong file type or something else wrong with the files, but I don't have any way of telling which songs haven't been put on the iPod unless I manually go through and compare each one...which will take days. Does anyone know how? If the program is able to tell me how many songs I have on my iPod and how many songs I have in iTunes, then I assumed there must be somewhere I could look to find out what the differences are.

Thanks
