Iphone cannot connect to internet over cellular network.

Hey guys, I've recently come across an annoying issue with my iphone (3g) with regards to connecting to the internet when not on a wifi connection. I recently returned (to Hong Kong) from a trip to Nepal on which i brought my iphone. My phone several times connected to the local Nepal carriers, but I didnt make any calls, receive/send any mail or texts or attempt to access the internet. When I returned to HK however, I noticed at the airport when I once again connected to my own carrier, I received the following message whenever I try to access the internet (even through maps) "Cannot Open Page" [Safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet]. The odd thing is, my phone calls and sms's still work, so my carrier is still connecting, but there is absolutely no data being transferred over the network!! The problem has persisted for nigh on 2 weeks now, and I have tried several reboots of the iphone, to no avail, as well as removing my sim card and re-entering. Any ideas? Was it connecting to the carrier in Nepal? Or is that likely unrelated?

I've been having the same problem - I got a new 3Gs iphone from the Apple store on O2 payasyougo and it would not connect to the internet apart from wifi even though 12 months internet access is included. After searching this forum and others I looked up the correct settings on the O2 site and found that the super-slick "helper" in the Apple store had set the phone up wrongly. I changed the data carrier to payandgo.o2.co.uk and BINGO I have internet everywhere!!

I have exactly the same problem as mdmcholet. I am in the UK on O2 and the settings change on their own to idata.o2.co.uk (ie the contract setting) from payandgo.co.uk

Its happening more and more sometimes 2 or 3 times every day.

I go and change the data network settings and sometimes it sticks, sometimes I have to restart twice. I have had a new iPhone and a new SIM and the problem persists.

I can only think it is o2 who have somehow detailed the phone on their system wrongly.

THIS IS HOW TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM!
Ive been through it all, been to the carrier and they had no idea, they told me if i connect it to itunes/sync it automatically fixes it HA!
...
All you need to do is reset the network settings, by, going to general>reset>reset network settings..
Thats all you need to do, but before you do make sure you have your sim card pin (4 digit code) handy because your phone will ask for it, after, its fixed!
