copy and paste of pictures

I just can't do a simple copy and paste. I copy a picture but when I paste it, the URL address is pasted not the photo.
There's an indirect and unpractical one (moving to Ipictures etc). I want an easy way like that in PC so you should convince me to stick with Mac.

imac, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

If you can't copy to "anything else" then you do have a problem. Otherwise the problem is a Microsoft peculiarity. Thus if I select a web page image in Safari, right click and select "Copy Image" I have the following behaviors:

1. In Preview I select "New from Clipboard" and a new file is created which consists of the image
2. In TextEdit, with an RTF document I select Paste, and the image is pasted; if the TextEdit document is in Plain Text format, THEN the URL of the image is what is pasted, rather than the image, obviously because plain text won't accept images so the program does the next best thing
3. MS Word '04 behaves like a plain text document in TextEdit--that is, selecting paste gives you the URL instead of the image
4. However, even Word will follow the normal Mac drag 'n drop convention, that is, just click the image in Safari, hold the click, and drag the image into the Word document and drop it

This is a user to user forum. People who help are here because they love their Macs, and enjoy helping other people. Gratuitous insults of the Mac, and thus those who are here because they love Macs, seems to me to be a rather counter-productive strategy for soliciting help. Counter-productive...hmm...that reminds of something...let's see...hmm...an image is forming...a little cartoony character, was its name "Bob"? Is it running around pointlessly on my monitor? Is it driving me nuts?

If you want us to help you with your issue then you’re going to have to explain yourself a little better:

I just can't do a simple copy and paste.

In what applications?

I copy a picture but when I paste it, the URL address is pasted not the photo.

Oh, it’s web browser? Which one? And where on earth are you pasting to?

There's an indirect and unpractical one (moving to Ipictures etc).

What’s Ipictures? Do you mean iPhoto?

I want an easy way like that in PC so you should convince me to stick with Mac.

Have you tried drag and drop? Also I have to tell you my indifference to whether or not you”stick with Mac” is total. “Stick”, Unstick, whatever.

Hi,

You are definably a switcher from PC to Mac.

I want an easy way like that in PC

What easy way like in PC?? I have unfortunately a Laptop from my company, it's a disaster working with it, NOTING is working or its just a pain in the a**s to work with.

So you should convince me to stick with Mac.

Your decision if you stick to MAC or NOT ... Its not up to us to do that.

But, the only thing I can tell you is that I'm a very happy an convince APPLE user sins 1984 in that year I started using Mac's you probably not born yet, but that's not important.

So be happy with your Mac an love it ...

Dimaxum 🙂

What sites are you dragging from?

I’ve just dragged a couple of images from a Google Images search in Safari to a Word document with no problems. However, one site simply wouldn’t allow me to do it - copy protection - unless I downloaded first.

If you search the internet you'll find dozens of complaints about this.

Why on earth would I do that?

What I was trying to say: Just google "copy and paste problems with leopard" or Mac 10.5.5. You will find the many postings exactly describing my problem.
What does this mean? It means there is a problem with your lovely Mac. Believe it or not Mac has problems. People should be able to tolerate criticism (not even to themselves to their machines).
Since this is a recurring problem someone might know a solution such as an update. In other forums they suggested private/temp file to be modified.
This is a problem with 10.5.5. Maybe yours is not 10.5.5 Leopard. Maybe it is a random issue with 10.5.5.

The problem occurs while copying a picture from a web browser to powerpoint.
There is some information about it in the link below. It seems this is an inherent problem with Powerpoint in Mac. There's no such problem in PC. It must be a compatibility issue.
The best way is to copy to desktop then to powerpoint.

Hmmm

You misunderstand me:

People should be able to tolerate criticism (not even to themselves to their machines).

Absolutely. That’s why you should post your query on the board with

a: Enough information so that we can +at the very least+ know what application(s) you are having a problem with and

b: resist adding fatuous comments like “so you should convince me to stick with Mac.“ or “If you search the internet you'll find dozens of complaints about this.“

Stick to a concise but detailed description of your issue and you’ll get a better reception and get a resolution to your problem faster too.

For instance, we have now (finally) found out that you it may be a problem with Microsoft Office. But what version? As I pointed out, I don’t have such a problem.

Hold down the Control key then click and hold on the Image for a Contextual Menu to drop down (or right click if you have a 2 button mouse). You will see many options select "Copy Image" then try and paste.

Sounds like it might be copying the link instead of the image itself.

You can also use the Contextual menu to save the file then import it into Powerpoint. Or drag it to your desktop then import it.

It sounds like a flaw in PPT or perhaps a setting that needs to be changed.

You can also try using Firefox to see if it works in that, which would mean a compatibility problem between Safari and PPT. But copying and pasting an image from the web should be very easy.

Well, no one cares if you use a Mac or not. I use both platforms and I have no trouble copying legal images to paste into any MS app on the Mac.

You can control click or if that task is too arduous, plug a two button USB mouse in and right click. Then either copy image or save image. Your choice. The only way it gets any easier is if you whine enough for someone else to do it for you.

I'm using Word 2008 and unfortunately it behaves like TextEdit.
On a single picture it works properly but if I select the contents of an entire webpage, press cmd+c and then cmd+v in word 2008 only text is copied.

This is an issue if I want to print some websites properly as I have the habit to paste them into Word and next print them. Or if I wanna just put them into Word as a document to read whenever I need so even if that specific website is shut down I can always access that information.
