Trouble removing hard drive for upgrade in Mac Pro

I find mine a lot harder to pull once a drive is in. But bay 1 does come out with a bit of force - gives me sore fingers - just like the others, I remove everything every few months for a thorough clean.

Pull #2 and then just twist and wiggle, happens all the time. I use to keep my case on its side which makes it much easier and safer to pull it up and let gravity hold the case down.

I have a 2008 Mac Pro and have read how to install new drives. The problem I am having is getting one of the drive bays, drive bay 1, to release. It seems like I can remove the other drive bays OK, but that one is stuck but good.

Remove disk two and three. Next, with the free space available - put your right hand on the back bottom edge of the HD in bay 1 and the left hand on the front of the tray. Now pull. With a little force the hard drive tray will come forward.

The use of the other hand on the back bottom lip of a snug hard drive really helps to provide the extra leverage needed to bring the tray forward.

That's a good tip actually - the bay design is awesome as you don't have any cable clutter - but there is still room for improvement - I bet you could easily break your nails trying to pull the drives out sometimes, ouch.

In most cases, I can get the HD trays out of the Mac Pro without any problem. However, sometimes tray 1 (which sits on top of the fan) can be very snug. Using fingers on the rear of the HD along with the other hand pulling from the front tab is the best way I have found to remove the tray without placing too much tension on the front of the tray.

The Mac Pro front tray lip can only accept so much pull pressure before the lip starts to bend which actually makes the tray even harder to remove. Using a few fingers on the rear of the HD provides a more balanced force for removing the HD.
