Let's be honest here... mms may be dying, but basically, the iphone is the only "technologically advanced" phone that does not offer it. Additionally, it doesn't not allow the option to forward a standard text message. It does not allow video.

All of these are in essence, standard on any other phone.

That being said, I still love my iPhone, and would not trade it for any other phone, even though the above listed items are pretty much the standard norm.

Try buying a stereo nowadays without AM. It too is a dying frequency band, but is still offered on all radios. At least give us the choice not to use it.

Ask the sender of an MMS to address the MMS to an email address for an email account that you access with the iPhone's mail client.

The sender will enter your email address in the To: field for the MMS instead of your cell phone number with area code.

The MMS will be recieved by you as an email with the photo as an email attachment. If you also access this email account with an email client on your computer, you will have access to the recieved message and the photo on your computer also.

I too wish Apple would have MMS on the iPhone. That and SMS messaging are used heavily by my friends. I also get frustrated with the fact I have a data connection and cannot have AIM, Yahoo IM or any other popular instant messenger application to run in the background. Thus almost forcing me to spend 15 or 20 bucks on messaging that doesn't truly support MMS.

Anyways, Here's a solution that I use and someone suggested already in this thread. Email your friends phone. One they get the message they can reply to you from then on.

Here are some of the more popular carriers listed below.

iPhone MMS sort of.

Alltel = xxxxxxxxxx@message.alltel.com

Amp'd Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@vtext.com

AT&T = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.att.net

Boost Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@myboostmobile.com

Centennial Wireless = xxxxxxxxxx@myblue.com (added by kcirrab-this is accurate for i have centennial)

Cingular (AT&T) = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.mycingular.com

Einstein PCS = xxxxxxxxxx@einsteinmms.com

Nextel = xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.nextel.com

Sprint = xxxxxxxxxx@messaging.sprintpcs.com or xxxxxxxxxx@pm.sprint.com

T-Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@tmomail.net

US Cellular = xxxxxxxxxx@mms.uscc.net

Verizon Wireless = xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com

Virgin Mobile = xxxxxxxxxx@vmobl.com

Its not perfect, but it works. Have at it gang.

If Apple wanted to, they could easily add a MMS function to the Email. Just have a switch/button/pulldown that states which carrier the email is going to and then just enter the phone number. Its still email on your phone, but adds the ease of use that standard MMS has because all you do is enter the phone number.

PS:I just thought of this: Once you've figured out how to email to your friends MMS you can then add their address to their profile in your contact, just list it under "other" now you have a slightly quicker way to pseudo-MMS on your iPhone.
