Hi!
My macbook powers off on low battery several minutes after low-battery alert. So nothing gets saved if macbook was left without power for a long period of time.
About first 3 month when it was new it went to sleep on low battery. But what happened now and how can I fix such a behaviour?
I have the same issue. I recently replaced my battery because my first one was recalled, yet when I leave it unplugged for a few hours, when I come back, it is fully dead. My battery settings are as follows:
Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for: 1 hour
Put the display to sleep when it is inactive for 1/2 hour
I'm not sure if HARDWARRIOR and I have the same issue or not, but it sounds similar, so I figured I would post in here as well. Hopefully we can figure this one out!
got the same problem since a couple of days. Calibrating the battery doesnt work anymore, because the macbook pro just shuts off instead of going to sleep when battery is on low power.
I've had the same problem since I bought my macbook. The battery got replaced at service but the problems persist. When I get the "low power" warning I have to connect the charger almost instantly to be able to keep my unsaved data.
-Now I'm considering to take it back to service before the warranty ends. Hope they can fix it this time.
Any more ideas whom to blame? Battery or macbook?
I cant leave mine macbook in service for several days, because I'm working on it. So maybe only leaving a battery will and replacing it will help?
Have you all tried a smc reset? All you do is disconnect all cable to the mb/p. Remove the battery then hold the power switch down for at least 5 seconds. Reinstall the battery and get a long with life.
At around 75% battery my macbook will shut itself off. Obviously I can't run a battery check. This is new, only been happening the last few months. I bought my compie from apple's web site in 2005( I think) as a refurb(also probably part of the problem). I have no warranties left and I'm actually thinking of buying a crappy PC and making if over since it will be tons cheaper than what I'll be charged at the local apple store. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys,
I was having similar battery issues, not going to sleep, shutting down at 70% and I took it to the Genius bar and the guy ran a battery test and gave me a new battery for free because some batteries are just crap, basically. He said they're replacing some batteries for free if they have a low cycle count and they're not working properly.
I know this is a different sort of fix, but it helped!
I have the same problem. My MBP is out of warranty and the running on battery keeps shutting it down without a warning.
It used to run fine, then my Nvidia chip failed - and since I got it back from service, it shuts down. The battery healt is at 47% with only 81 recharge cycles.
Has anyone had any luck w/ NEW (current) batteries?
I have a last-gen blackbook 2.4 w/ two batteries (almost a year old), and neither will calibrate (shuts off computer instead of going to sleep). I'm tempted to ask for replacement batteries, but would like to know if anyone has had luck w/ new-er cells.
I almost forgot to mention.... my wife has a white macbook (2.1Ghz, gen before mine). I put her battery in my machine, and it calibrated fine; I put my battery in her machine, calibrated fine. Ideas???
If your battery is 0102 or 0102a firmware (check in System Profiler), then I believe it is the culprit; I have been through 4 batteries, and the only two that worked were 0110 firmware.
Another thing....if you have Secure Virtual Memory on, turn it off. I've noticed that Safe Sleep on low-battery doesn't seem to function if SVM is turned on; however, if I have SVM off and a battery with firmware 0110, it works dandy every time. I've tried SVM both OFF and with it ON with a firmware 0102 battery, and it still gives the same result--shuts down instead of hibernates.
I don't know if that will fix it for everyone, but it certainly fixed it for my last-gen Blackbook! (knock on wood)
Nevermind. The new battery only successfully hibernated once, so it's definitely not fixed w/ the new battery. SVM doesn't seem to affect it after all.
