Macbook shuts down on low battery

Hi!
My macbook powers off on low battery several minutes after low-battery alert. So nothing gets saved if macbook was left without power for a long period of time.
About first 3 month when it was new it went to sleep on low battery. But what happened now and how can I fix such a behaviour?

MacBook 63B, Mac OS X (10.5.4), 4Gb ram

I also had the same problem as the original poster - 2 batteries in a row actually - the original battery that came with my core duo MB in June 2006 and the replacement from late 2007.

I already had the updated firmware installed, but when I checked the battery status in system profiler (about this mac/more info/power/battery information/health information/condition) my condition read "check battery"

I took it into an Apple shop when I was States-side and they replaced it immediately, no questions asked. new battery is working great.

As was previously mentioned, some batteries are just crap. The "test" that the Apple genius does in front of you at the store is basically just software that reads the condition in system profiler. The Genius explained that Apple wrote the program to give customers "visual confidence" that the battery is either good (green) or bad (red).

Check out your battery condition and get yourself a replacement.

Cheers

Right. no apple stores here in Thailand either. well no "real" ones anyway.

What I mentioned in my last post is that you can try to look in +System Profiler+ to see your battery condition. the apple store software simply checks this same condition but displays it visually as red (bad) green (good)

To see if your battery is obviously bad, click on the Apple logo in the menubar and go to "about this mac". In the pop-up window click "more info..." This will open up +System Profiler+. In the "Hardware" section of +System Profiler+ click on "Power". Now under +battery information+ look for "condition". If the condition reads "check battery" then you definitely need a new battery.

I've had ongoing communication with an Applecare T2 rep about this issue. After sending in two data captures, replacing the battery twice, the issue is still not resolved.

After all was said and done (and nearly a year later), I've agreed to take it in for repair and see if they are able to fix it; they were not able to fix it at their depot previously, but this this time it is being repaired at the apple store.

I will post back and let you all know if the repair fixes it, and what they fixed. In the meantime, no news... 😟

PS: My two week old 15" uMBP has been calibrated twice already (once intentionally, the other b/c I forgot my power cord) and each time it went into safe sleep just fine. My BlackBook (4GB/250GB) is to go to my wife to replace/upgrade her aging 2.16Ghz WhiteBook (2GB/160GB). We (especially her) really didn't want to exchange/replace it for a new(er) unibody model b/c the black is so beautiful.
