Monitor Calibration Software and 10.5.6

Anybody successfully using Monitor Calibration Software that connects to and calibrates the monitor.

At least on the PPC box with 10.5.6 I can not get Lacie Blue Eye Pro V4 to run.

G5, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Any update on this issue?

I'm experiencing the same problem with a Lacie 724 display on my new Mac Pro (OS X 10.5.7) and Blue Eye Pro PE 1.0.2: no hardware calibration, the software doesn't seem to recognize the display correctly.
Everything worked fine before on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.5

I have contacted Lacie technical support yesterday on this very serious issue, and I'm still wainting for an answer.

We're experiencing exactly the same problem here. In fact I just hung up the phone with Lacie tech and they're calling me back.

What's interesting is that we have a Mac Pro tower that is less than a year old with two Lacie 320's connected. Running OS 10.5.8. Everything works as it should and the hardware calibration is spot on.

We have a newer Mac Pro tower with a clean install of the OS (10.5.8) and all updates applied. We have a 724 and 320 connected to this machine. The Blue Eye Proof Edition software is installed with no other conflicting calibration software. The displays are not being recognized correctly by the Blue Eye software and hardware calibration is not available. Our system profiler does recognize the displays as the Lacie 724 and the Lacie 320. All connections (cables / ports) are correct and secure.

We'll update this post as soon as we hear back from Lacie tech.

We've been back and forth with Lacie and Apple all day and we know the likely cause of the problem but there is no solution or fix in sight.

Feedback from Lacie...

"...I will not speculate as to why this is so, but I can tell you that we’ve seen such unusual issues before and when it comes to DDC protocol, it is a standardized format, and deviation by the OS developer in certain versions from this standard is unexplained.

Your solution options right now are to jump back to 10.5.7 or 10.5.5 which did not have these issues. They are caused by non-standard DDC/CI implementation. All necessary reports have been filed by our team with Apple. This issue was apparently resolved to .7, but has come back with .8"

Apple tech shrugged there shoulders and have passed it off to the higher up techs. They were responsive and eager to solve the situation. We'll all have to to wait and see if that means anything. In the meantime, we've got a 10K dollar workstation sitting unused and staff waiting impatiently.

As a side note, I have to say we are incredibly unhappy with Apple re. the new Mac Pro's. We purchased one of the higher up towers with the default video (NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 512MB). Apple, for reasons unknown to those of us in the professional world, decided to switch to the Mini DisplayPort. Many (all) of the high-end graphics manufacturers use DVI connections. Previous Mac Pro towers have dual DVI connections. After spending several thousand dollars on a new tower we were informed by Apple tech that we would have to purchase an adapter at $34 dollars. Many I've spoken with said they should have included one in the box. Apple apparently thinks otherwise.

We're not impressed and will likely be looking for alternative gear solutions for our business.

This is B.S. I wish I had come across this forum before I bought the Lacie 724 yesterday.... Spent many hours on the phone with LaCie tech support. Same problem.... software not working properly on my new macbook pro.... also starting up the blue eye pro software takes about 30-45 seconds..... Can't calibrate properly.. also the salesman stressed that I calibrate with Lacie's gear for proper LUT values...... I also can't use the software with my colormunki...... this is bad!!! I am a loyal Apple supporter... but they screwed us all on this one.... I hope they don't think this will force me to buy an Apple monitor....

I've been looking on LaCie's site and reading through the manuals for the 7xx series of monitors. They all have full manual control of color, brightness and contrast. Meaning, you can properly profile these monitors without having to rely on DDC. You just have to do a bit more work to manually set a white point and other settings in a third party profiling software package.

Try the ColorEyes Display Pro software. It will work with the LaCie colorimeter as an Eye-One Display 2.

If you want to try the Colormunki, turn off its default setting to use DDC with this download from X-Rite. It comes with two items. One to turn Colormunki's DDC support off, and another to turn it on.

The tools and software to properly profile these monitors is available.

Hello! It makes me both sad and relieved to see that others still have this issue. I've been trying to get my LaCie 321+BlueEye Pro to work like it should since november last year when Apple broke the DDC. I have been in contact with the swedish LaCie support last time in june, and they had no clue what so ever and aparently never heard of anyone with these problems. They were not helpfull, and I will never recommend anyone to buy LaCie ever again. I have since switched from G5 to a MacBookPro, which only changed that digital calibration now "works" with the newest BlueEye software.

Currently, my BlueEye and LaCie321 does have digital contact, but calibration is extremely slow (15 minutes+), and the result is always crap, all the calibration test values are very far from good.
Actualy, since the last OS X and BlueEye updates, the calibration result does look OK, but the calibration test values are still off the chart.
