10.5.6 breaks Dvorak keyboard shortcuts in Eclipse

I just confirmed this on two separate machines. After installing 10.5.6 the keyboard shortcuts in the Eclipse Java development environment don't work properly. It seems that they are interpreted as QWERTY (with some exceptions, like Cmd-Q and Cmd-,). It's extremely frustrating to try to work with all the keyboard shortcuts moved around. Does anyone NOT have this problem, or have a solution for it? I tried putting back a few suspicious files to the pre-update versions, but with no success. I also tried some other Java applications and they seem to work fine. (And of course I've reinstalled Eclipse.) This is a very strange and irritating problem.

Well done...

I have replicated this issue on both of my mac's as I am a dvorak typer.

Since going back in time is not an option on my setup, I am forced to boot up into windoze just so I can work!!!!

This is totally unacceptable, and has tarnished my already tarnished view of the excessively more and more windoze like "update every day with another security fix to help you all out" mentality coming through Apple.

I waited 2 months to update 2 10.5.6.... I was so reluctant.... where was the newsletter or call from my apple store to say "Hey Bobby, don't update... because your workplace will go to ****?". I know you guys have on record that I'm a dvorak typist. How hard is it, you make a dodgy update, you do a product recall... you pull down the update from being available.

I'm 2 months late to the messed up party of this update... and my dramas could have been avoided by a recall

Apple.. .where is the patch? I want it now. I want an uninstall program that undoes this crap. I'm surrounded by 20k of APple products I can't use. Well done.

+I feel your pain+. I recently did a reinstall of 10.5, upgrading it only to 10.5.5. It "fixed" the Dvorak problem, and it fixed a bunch of odd problems I had been having with all my browsers and browser based apps. So it was worth the time to me. I agree that OS X, being Unix based, is a pain in the arse anytime something goes wrong. It is becoming as hard as Windows to repair a messed up OS X installation. Or to figure out what part of the install is causing the problem.

The Dvorak problem did nudge me to start using NeoOffice instead of Microsoft Office. So far I've had a pretty good experience with it. Lemonade from lemons, I guess.

Interesting. Did your browser problems have anything to do with images not loading? I haven't researched it yet, but I've been having problem with images not loading in all sorts of apps: Mail, Firefox, iTunes, pretty much anything Internet related. It's strange, too, because it doesn't seem to be a slow connection issue.

Anyway, I've changed so many things recently that it's hard to pinpoint what change started this problem.

Cheers,

My browser problems were really weird. Would get error messages referring to server errors along the lines of "server could not process a request". Happened on certain web pages, reproducibly, in Safari, or Firefox, also happened when I tried to use Logitech's software to update my Harmony remote. I had already reinstalled Safari and Java. Didn't happen on other machines in the house. Genius bar had no answer other than to reinstall.

As near as I can tell, somewhere in six or so months of use (this started before 10.5.6) I had installed, or partially installed some sort of program that mucked things up. (I am cursed with the "sounds cool, I think I'll try that" syndrome.) Anyway. It runs fine now. And I'm going to wait a bit when 10.5.7 comes out and read about problems before I update.

I finally updated to Leopard. I figured that by waiting long enough, the bugs would be fixed before I installed, but--- like everyone else who uses the Dvorak layout I've got a slew of applications whose keyboard shortcuts no longer work. And it is absolutely maddening. I'm taking a class this semester that requires me to use Eclipse.

When is Apple going to fix this? It's been months now since this problem was identified.

*Come on Apple, WHEN will you get 10.5.7 out?* I did not like having to downgrade to 10.5.5 just so I could continue to use my existing applications with the DVORAK keyboard.

I am not particularly interested in buying Snow Leopard to fix this (and you can bet I will wait until 10.6.1 or .2 and affirmative reports before I do).

I know we are a "minority" community - users of the sanely designed Dvorak keyboard - but we are one you and Microsoft have supported for years. Don't dump on us now. Get out a fix, or get 10.5.7 out -- assuming that really does fix the problem.

I've been using Macs for almost a quarter century. Please fix this.
