Count me in... Every time I connect the iPodMini to my G3 iBooks (latest software installed), the updating of songs start, but after a while, transferring stops, and the spinning wheel goes on forever. The only solution is to force iTunes to quit and manually disconnect the iPodMine, then restart the Mac. I have reset the iPodMini and tried everthing, This just doesn't work!

Any solution from Apple support????

Helge,

The only solution I've been able to come up with so far is to use the USB 2.0 cable... This may not work as well for you, as I don't know if your G3 iBooks have USB 2.0 (I know they have atleast USB 1.1, but this won't be optimal for large changes to the library on your mini).

I'm going to try and call Apple later today and tell them about this thread and see if they can atleast address the issue.

If you come up with a work around to get the FireWire connectivity back, please let us know.

My solution: I had the same problem with an G3 Powerbook. I had made all recomended updates etc. My solution: Setting back the ipod - and do not upgrade the newest ipod software! With the old ipod-softwarke it works famously.
And I surely will stay with the old software - until apple makes a new update with this bug fixed. (Cause hard-rebooting has killed my system so that I had to make a complete new istall of OSX. I don't want to make it again ;-))

Count me in too !

I have a 4G 20gig which works fine.

But my gf's Mini (it came with 1.2 firmware) freezes my Ti Powerbook 500 real good. Force quitting iTunes doesn't work. I found that opening the terminal and typing 'su' and the root password (to get root credentials) allows me to type 'reboot' and sometimes get the machine to quit everything and actually reboot. But the kernel task is usually hogging the CPU and it doesn't work. Try it, it might help... And careful what you do as root !

I called my reseller, and since I got the Mini last Thursday, they are ordering a new one for me. I am not very optimistic.

That is very nice of you.

But on my end, I tried to downgrade the Mini to 1.1 using the "2004-08-06 iPod updater", but it says that the iPod model currently connected is not supported by this update...

!

Maybe it's because it shipped with 1.2 already. It might be different in some way to the other Minis...

I called Apple (we should all do this, they will speed up the fix if we do) and told 'em about my issues (hangs and Kernel Panics). They asked me to reinstall iTunes, try a different account and try to transfer stuff to the iPod using the Finder. Or try USB.
I've had enough crashes on this machine with this problem, so no thanks.

I temporarily fixed my problem by using USB 1 (ouch) to transfer the music. I wish I could try other solutions, but I have no way of properly quitting iTunes when it freezes. If we all call, they will do this testing on their own machines.
