At work we got a new Canon iR2020 printer, it is connected to the network. Following the instructions we were able to get all the Windows based and Linux based machines to work, however none of the macs have been able to work with this printer yet. I have tried downloading up to date drivers with no success. It does recognize when the printer is on, in idle, or off. However every time you print it returns the error message "Printer in use. Waiting for the print job to finish." even when there is no job to finish. Thanks in advance for any help!

The Canon iR2020 does not support PostScript. So, in order to print from your Mac, you will need to use the Canon UFR2 driver for Mac OS X. The current version is v1.70.
After running the installer to add the software, you can then add the printer. You have to select More Printers then Canon IP (UFR II). Then input the IP address of the printer followed by a Queue name of LP. When you click Add, the iR2020 'PPD' should be automatically found. If it does, then try printing.
Thanks for your quick reply. Unfortunately this didn't solve the problem. I was pretty sure that was the way I did it a few days ago but to be sure I uninstalled the 1.70 drivers and reinstalled them, and followed your steps. It left me with the very same error message when I went to print. Is there any other information I can give you that would help you? Thanks so much for your help.
The next thing I would check is that the LPR port is enabled on the iR2020. Windows (not sure about Linux) will default to Port 9100 (RAW) when you select Standard TCP/IP printing, allowing them to print okay. However, the UFR2 Mac driver will use LPD, and if this is disabled (it is by default with the bigger iR devices) then this will give you an error.
You can print a 'User's Data List' from the machine to confirm if this is the case. The setting is located under 7. System Settings > Network Settings > LPD Settings.
Thanks again for the reply. Below is a print out of the TCP/IP settings. It appears as if it is on, is there anything you see that looks off? Thanks again.

Just copy/paste, just changed the value on the printer from 516 to 515 and I am still getting the error message. Is there anyway of reverting the entire machine to default settings and trying over from there or would you suggest that? Thanks
You may have to restart the machine for the setting to take effect. The button on the top is just a sleep mode, so you have to use the power switch on the RH side of the machine.
As far as a full reset is concerned, I think you would find this is a service mode setting rather than a user mode. The downside to doing this is that all the network and user values would need to be re-entered.
If the restart above doesn't help, then you could try adding the printer using IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket. But first you will need to check if the machine has the PCL kit installed. If it does, then you can add the printer using the Gutenprint Generic PCL5e driver, as there is no Canon PCL option for Mac. If this prints then, while it doesn't give you all the Canon features, it will at least show we can connect from the Mac's.
Just thought of another thing to try. Open Network Utility, select Port Scan and enter the IP of the iR2020. Then click Scan and see if it shows 515 as an open tcp port.
