Year-at-a-glance View in iCal

YES PLEASE!!! Year at a glance!!!

I have to say, I am an Apple nut... I buy all the newest stuff, and buy into all their marketing; and I think they make great products.

That being said, I really dislike how the company seems to ignore the wants/needs of those of us that buy their products. Let me give a couple examples:

iPhone comes out without MMS capabilities, despite the face that ALL other smartphones had it and most people still use it, Apple thought it was a dying technology so they opted not to include it... After 2 years, they seemed to condescend to release it.

Next: Apple refuses to allow Flash support on iPhones and iPads. Why? Because Steve Jobs thinks it is a CPU hog and slows down performance... perhaps that is true. But GIVE US THE OPTION!!! let us turn it on and off!!! How can you call the iPad the "best internet experience" when you can't view content on a large percentage of websites... Perhaps Flash is on its way out, but the fact remains that we need it now.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple thinks it is an inefficient way to do planning to use a year at a glance so they exclude it.

AFter years of happily using Now Up-to-Date I am looking for a new calendar, since the Now company has closed shop. Now was very full-featured, so I wasn't thinking I could get that same functionality. But the VERY FIRST THING I noticed about iCal was . . . no year-at-a-glance view option. That's absurd. My search continues.

Well once used a Psion 5 it was well 12 years ago and IT HAD a year view in its calendar... now the iPhone does all i used to do with my old pda + a way more but; I still really miss once of the most important features it had A YAER VIEW/PLANNER... Please Apple is 2 years we are here begging for this (btw have been begging the same with google and got a sort of year view, not yet what i really want but at least they moved)... maybe it is included in the new iOS4 and if not you have till the end of june to patch it in 🙂

in most of the cases apple don't listen to the costumer.
i'm new in mac dev but i'll try program a year view in ical. there are some great ideas how this year view could look like. imagine a year view with an aperture like lens for detail view. or a swipe throw the months.

@leon007 how would you do it on a pc? i know this is a bit heretic, but i would be prepared to use a virtual machine to make me such a planner...thanks for any hints.

You can get loads of year planners for PC format. Just google it. Try also Excel Year planner. Lets hope Apple are listening to us. Such a simple fix.

I agree. Presumably very easy to implement. We don't plan out lives exclusively on a monthly basis!

If you know a dev around you, just ask to him to developp a small app that show all iCal in year view. I think it's not so complicated. Even in AppleScript. No ?

Agreed, I could sure use a year in review right now as I do my taxes.

Come on Apple!!! How difficult can it be to implement?

No point in using ICal, or Outlook for that matter. Is too late for me already, I need an alternative now. Anyone knows any good replacement for ical with year view?
