iTouch 2.2 software update problem

I just got an iTouch and it is running version 1.1.5 software. When I hook it up to my iTunes the program wants to update to 2.2, but when I try to do it the message says "There was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "XXX". You do not have permission to access the requested resource." What do I do? Please help!

I had the same problem with a refurbished 16gb iTouch. Called support about error 1603 in Win XP and was told it was a usb based issue. I went through the motions of making sure all my drivers were updated and that usb 2.0 was enabled. On most newer computers this is already automatic.

No matter what I did to try an install 2.2, I got the same error 1603. I even reinstalled iTunes fresh and that didn't work. Another thing to remember is before you do any of this make a DVD copy of your entire iTunes playlist and contents just in case of disaster.

Continuing, I would have to switch to a different laptop unit to reinstall 1.1.5. I had to do this because otherwise the iTouch was rendered inoperable without the original software reinstalled. It would boot up empty and ask you to restore it and you would just continually get the same error 1603.

I did this like four times with the same results. So finally in the help section for these errors in Apple's online support it had a section on logging in as a new user. I logged in the original computer as a new user, and reinstalled iTunes in the new user setup that I had just created. Went through all the protocols to setup a new ipod and the update installed. Once the update was installed I re-named it back to its origin name. Logged off as the new user, then logged into the normal log on in XP where my iTunes library was already present and it recognized 2.2 with all my original playlists.

It seems the frustration was worth it in the long run. To the credit of Apple, the solution was right in front me the whole time, in their support pages.

2.2 is awesome because it gives your 'touch' the ability to download podcasts, applications and so forth directly to the iTouch. If your in a WiFi that's at least 1.6 mg it's great. My battery on this refurbished seem to go down pretty quickly, especially multi-tasking surfing the net and listening to music.

What worked for me was running down the battery till it has no more juice and giving it a full charge for for at least 4 hours. Do that a couple times and it power cycles the battery and gives you way more time. I saw so many people in this forum with my same problem, that I felt compelled to help. The iTouch is awesome and I expect it to get better with time, like a fine wine.
