i would really like to buy an iphone 3g, but i am only 17, and my parents dont want the contract tied to their name or anything. is it possible to just buy one and have my parents co-sign it, and i would pay for it?

If I understand your clarification, you want your parents to co-sign (or not) for the purchase of the phone and the contract (monthly statement) would be associated with your bank account. Unfortunately the contract and phone are tied to the same contract. When you purchase the phone you have to activate it with a 2 year contract. And since you have not reached the legal age to enter into a contract, you can't buy the phone, regardless of whether its your money or someone else's.
