Also, there have been a number of posts tying the slow downloads to an Airport Express firmware issue. I'm hardwired and experienced the same symptom as everybody else. So, I doubt the linkage.
The past few days my ATV has been taking 7-14 hours to download movies, when it used to take less than a minute to get it to start playing. I'm starting to regret not stopping by the video store yesterday...

It's still a bit early claim that the slow download problem has been resolved. However, since upgrading to 3.0.2, downloads are back to their pre-3.0.1 speeds. Anybody else notice an improvement?

I'm running a Linksys router with the latest ATV upgrade, and a download that I started 5 hours ago of a Standard Definition movie has not yet finished. Worse, it told us the movie was ready to watch, and it stopped a little more than halfway through. We'll have to catch up with it tomorrow night and hope the 24 hours doesn't expire before we can get to it.
I'm on Cox Cable, and I used to have download times for HD movies of about 40 minutes. haven't seen those days in two years.

Well I see no-one has posted for a while so let me say things are still not working. 4 times my movie rental has stopped. After 2 hours I still only 70% downloaded. Shame on Apple for giving up on this problem. Where is Bill Gates when you need him?
Up until a few months ago, excellent service, but now usually intolerable due to slow slow slow download speeds. Not a good harbinger for a good iPad experience.
Download speeds are as expected for me - dead slow by virtue of having a 1Mbps connection due to my distance from exchange despite living in a town centre.
Wish I had a faster connection to see if I was getting the same user experience on fast connections, but I don't necessarily think this is Apple's fault in all cases.
If ISPs are throttling access to specififc servers there's not a lot Apple can do about it themselves....if the ISPs aren't then that's different.

The problem may be your wieless router! I called Apple and they had me change the channel on my Airport Extreme to 9 (or 11) and that immediately solved my prblem with agonizingly slow downloads. Last night "The Hangover" was ready to watch in 1 minute. The previous night "Syriana" took about an hour (before I made the change). If you are using a wieless router, you could trey connecting Apple TV to your cable modem, bypassing the wireless router in question, to see if that solves the problem. Good luck!
In the last couple of weeks, my HD rentals have started pausing several times during playback. This NEVER used to happen to me! My parents have similar problems with their aTV. It's not a wireless issue, because we're using Ethernet connections in both cases. Nothing else has changed. What gives?!?
I found deleting some of the content on my atv sped up the downloads a bit but didn't completely solve the problem, anyone got a fix for this yet?
I deleted nearly all of my content (set it to stop synching all but latest episodes of shows) and that did nothing for my problem. It's only been happening for about a month. But it could be DNS related because thats about the time I had to stop using my PC based (linux) firewall and started depending on the Airport Extreme as my Router.
Need to set the Apple TV's DNS differently to opendns or something to verify that though.
I may try resetting the ATV to prior 3.0 firmware and see where that get's me but I really like the new interface.
I'll report back what works and what doesn't.

I've had this problem since late 2009, and I just read the post recommending that you change your wireless channel - it worked! I changed from channel 11 to channel 9, and I was INSTANTLY remedied. I HIGHLY recommend trying this! Thanks, guys!
WOW! I tried the "channel change" as suggested by two posts and not only does my HD content load quicker, I can actually skip through the chapters instantly and continuously watch my movie. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
I have slow HD downloads from ATV and via iTunes. I have slow software updates from apple servers. Anytime I download anything coming from apple it starts fast for the first couple minutes then the download will stall (ATV, iTunes, and software update). It is not my connection to the internet and it is not my wireless router. Everything else I do on the internet works like a champ, until I try downloading anything from apple. I can't even watch a full SD movie trailer on ATV with out it freezing... Amazing how I can stream HD trailers from fandango and yahoo with out any pausing. HD streaming on netflix is perfect as well.
I can't take it anymore, I'm tired of putting up with this garbage.

Anyone else having slow HD downloads?
