ARDAgent - allow incoming connections alert won't stop

Hi,

I'm using Apple Remote Desktop on a G5 Quad with 4GB ram, 10.5.6. I have my Firewall turned on to "Set Access for Specific Services and applications." ARDAgent has been added as one of the applications and is set to "allow incoming connections".

However, just about every time I log in I immediately get a dialog asking whether I want to allow incoming connections for ARDAgent. Each time I click "allow", but the dialog never stops appearing. It also appears on other accounts on this computer. I've double checked in Firewall, and it is indeed there and is set to allow incoming connections.

This isn't specific to 10.5.6 because it has been happening quite a while before that. Is there any solution to kill the incessant dialog?

Thanks for any suggestions.

vince

Hi Youngman,

I'm with the group of folks that your solution still doesn't appear to work for. I am noticing something odd though, that may have something to do with it.

First, I didn't check the owner and permissions on the /_CodeSignature folder before I deleted it, but I noticed that the other folders/files indside of "contents" are system:wheel and system is the only user with rw access.

When I deleted the /_CodeSignature folder it never came back. Not sure if permissions are off or we're in the wrong folder for leopard.

On a side note I am using the following command to stop and restart ARD Agent:

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -agent -stop

sudo /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/Resources/k ickstart -restart -agent

Anyone have any ideas why the folder is not getting re-created?

Thanks,

Israel

Any news on that issue? I can't believe that I got that problem on each of my three macs while others seem to have no problem at all. What's wrong with my Macs? Or have you all disabled the firewall?

It is not the first time that I get this issue with the firewall: Also iTunes was asking me continuously for incoming connections, until I replaced the iTunes.app with the one from another Mac. Furthermore I had to replace some system files (nmblookup, configd) because of exactly this issue. It seems that the firewall's signatures are sometimes not correctly attached.

I really would appreciate if someone could help me. In the meantime I managed to get back to the old ARDAgent.app file from my Time Machine Backup. But OSX Software Update asks me every day for installing the new 3.3.1. This is really annoying.

Thanks!

Hi all!

I found a solution that worked for me on http://osdir.com/ml/remote-desktop/2009-05/msg00011.html

- Log in with administrator account.
- Remove ARDAgent from allow connection list of Firewall.
- Make Firewall open; 'Allow all incoming connections'.
- Launch Terminal.app
- Go to '/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/ Contents/Resources'
- Type 'sudo ./kickstart -uninstall -files'.
- Install ARD3 as you like and then up to date (you can download from apple.com)
- Close Firewall; 'Set access for specific services and applications'
- log out.
- log in again.
