setting up windows 7 beta in boot camp

I just got the Windows 7 beta and I'm wondering how I go about installing it in boot camp. Could someone tell me step by step and (if possible) provide pictures or screenshots? I'm really new and I've never used boot camp before.

To be fair the same source on the web that suggest to edit the "VersionNT=600" to "VersionNT>=600" has one comment that says to delete the "Launch Condition". But that didn't work properly, because all "Apple" drivers were just skipped and the Boot Camp settings lacked several entries (like Trackpad settings).

So I went and tried to install the drivers one by one and found out about the necessity to set Vista compatibility for all of them. But that left out the Boot Camp tray-icon driver. Eventhough it is possible to run the Boot Camp settings as standalone (it's installed as an application in Windows\System32) that's was just half the deal.

From there I tried a combination of all suggestions, but the VersionNT thing didn't do anything just like before. But the combination of the other two worked.

So in the end I was just combining several different suggestions into one. 😉

Everyone running Windows via Boot Camp should take a look at the following thread though. It explains how to setup (workaround) Boot Camp for audio playback without dropouts. Additionally you'll find some small tools to enable/disable the Boot Camp trayicon and special F-Keys via icon and keyboard-shortcut.

Have fun!

Hi funman895. I've written a step-by-step guide with pictures to installing Windows 7 beta on a Mac here:

Hi,

Using the Orca MSI editor, I think i found a fix that is complete. Described below for the 32 bit version.

it seems that the installer complains about the "Admin User" property in the Vista line in the LaunchCondition table. Changing that to "Privileged" seems to fix the 2229 error. Might be a locale issue as some have mentioned.

(If you delete the whole table, as proposed several times, the installer seems to run, but is does't install correctly. So, don't drop the table!)

I also changed every "=600" to ">=600. After that the Bootcamp installer runs fine.

My iSight and two other devices still have a warning in the device list. Still, the iSight works with MS Live Messenger, and I expect it to do so with other apps.

So thanks to everyone who posted on the installer error and the >600 hints and Orca. Helped a lot.

I've put a Patch/Transform that can be applied using Orca at "http://upit.to/file:ec5a663822" . You have to

0) install the Orca MSI editor (like from http://www.technipages.com/download-orca-msi-editor.html)
1) copy the BootCamp folder to your hard drive,
2) open the BootCamp file (located in the Apple sub folder of the Drivers sub folder) in Orca
3) apply the transform file using the command in Orca's Transform menu.
4) save the tranformed file over the original BootCamp file (using the menu item in Orca's File menu)
5) launch Setup.exe (located in the upmost level of the copied BootCamp folder).

Worked here. YMMV. Use it at your own risk.

(:

I am having two problems with Windows 7, 32 bit. The first is, I am unable to adjust brightness while in Windows mode. It automatically defaults to a dark setting. I figured out that this problem is caused by the fact that I have an Apple Studio Display monitor that digitally adjusts brightness in the Apple Display control panel. That control panel doesn't exist on the Windows side. Every time I go back to OS X I have to go to that control panel to re-adjust the brightness back to my normal setting. Mildly, annoying.

The second is very annoying! Windows 7 will not show up in the Startup Disk control panel in OS 10.5.6. Vista always showed up there without any problems. Now, I have to put in the Windows 7 install disk, which will show up in the Startup Disk control panel and start up from that, every single time I want to switch to Windows 7. Has anyone else experienced this and knows how to fix it?

Use Boot Camp control panel in Windows 7 to set startup disk.

When installing drivers etc in Windows 7, you need to first control + click on the application and from the list, choose "Troubleshoot Compatibility" and let Windows wizard walk you through and choose "use to work in Vista". Otherwise, you can choose "Properties" on the install application and manually change to Vista compatibility mode. Then run the installer. Otherwise, some drivers don't seem to install properly.

You may also need to grab graphic driver from Nvidia, audio drivers, and others, as well and install those manually.

Forget boot camp, it isn't really needed to install.

Do you have a partition for Windows? say 40GB?
Hold "C" on startup.
Does your MacBook AL support 64-bit? if not you can install but may have to work around Apple Setup.exe

Windows 7 64-bit has an EFI boot menu. Apple's support and install leaves a lot to be desired.

Do you see something along the lines of this?
