I would like to get a warning before accidently deleting a playlist

Hi,

I am running the latest itunes and on leopard.
I love iTunes and use it for all my needs for music, videos, etc.
I make lots of playlists for different genre, parties, etc etc.
However sometimes when I think I am selecting a song I want to download it was actually highlighting the playlist the song was in instead. It is sometimes hard to see as it highlights the song too.

I press delete and the whole playlist is gone. I realized the old itunes use to prompt a message asking whether I was sure I want to delete. Is there an option I can choose to turn this function back on?

It is very frustrating since some of my playlists take me days and weeks to collate for parties. Once its gone I have no idea what I have chosen since some of the playlists I made months ago.

Did you try to select it when in your library and delete it there? You shouldn't have to delete it directly from your HD, and that would leave an orphan link in your library.

You can reset all your dialog warnings in iTunes -> Preferences -> Advanced.

The new version cannot reset warning before deleting songs.
Since I edit a lot of my songs constantly as I dj, I just accidently deleted a whole playlist which I took me a few months of collating. I have 600 GB of music, so its a BIG hassle and very upset by this.

If iTunes can have a setting like iCal where the calendar cannot be deleted by pressing delete, but have to right click delete + prompt.

Is there a way to fool proof this from happening again?

You can do this under the preferences => advanced tab:

"Reset all dialog warnings:"

hal56,

Nothing deleted from playlists is permanently deleted. You need to delete the item from the appropriate library, music, movies, podcasts, etc.

I am hoping I missed the option to turn it back on. I use to use the previous itunes on an older laptop and it prompts before deleting.

I have a slightly different question. All of a sudden, when I delete something from a podcast playlist, it does not delete from the hard disk.

How can I reset that so after it deletes from playlist it deletes from hard disk?

Jim:

thanks--I used to delete and item from a playlist--when I did that the warning question would pop up asking if I wanted to delete from hard drive.. It does not do that anymopre and I need to go to hard drive to delete the file.

So I prob need to find a setting that triggers that. Just cannot find anything to do that.

As noted on your other post in the Windows forum, you need to hold ( alt on Windows) ( Option on Mac) then press Delete to remove it from a playlist and also from the library.

p.s.
You should add your OS and computer to your signature line

Edela, you answered my problem! Thank you.
Can't believe I missed that...the way is written with "warning" I must hae subconsciously backed off.

And thanks Chris for the Option+Delete. You saved me so much time as I delete some songs I don't like as much but have to go to the Lirbary search then delete. Now it's delete in playlists 🙂
