weird screen... scratch? round imprint? crop circles?

my iphone 3G is about a month old, or so. maybe not even. just today, i realized there are these weird... dot... things on the glass. you can't really see them well in bright light or when the phone is on, which is likely why i haven't noticed them, but when the phone is off, they show through.
they're little dots with a halo around them. the screen feels smooth to the touch, so i wouldn't think its a crack (at least not on the surface) but i really don't know for sure. when you press down (not even hard) by the area, the "halo" shrinks a little, then eventually returns to normal size.

i tried wiping the screen with the cloth in all sortsa ways, but no luck. i'll likely try to bring it to the at&t or apple shop, but wanted to know if maybe there was something i could do at home, first.
any ideas on what it could be, or what i could do?
