EZ Drummer

Hi Guys,

I just got Ezdrummer and I have set it up as a Multi Channel in Logic. Everything is working ok but it appears that everything is in Stereo. I would expect the Overheads to be in stereo but not the Kick, Snare and Hi Hat.

If i make the Snare channel mono when I solo the kik I can still hear the snare.

Is this how it works or am I missing the point?

Thanks

John

The snare might bleed into the simulated Room and Overhead mics when you solo the kick. (the drums bleed into other mics like in a real mic'd up drumset)
Try turning down the Overheads and Room mics. See if that changes it.
(There is a switch on the snare channel to turn bleed on and off. But, I haven't tried that)

also, guess you know, don't forget to press the "plus" sign on the lower part of the ez-drummer track (in the Logic MIXER), to activate multiple tracks for ez-drummer.

OK, sorry to double post.
finally had a chance to test this in Logic.

Now I see. When you solo the Snare, the Bass Drum bleeds thru. Even when Overheads and Rooms are turned off.

That is actually correct for ez-drummer.

Like a real mic'd snare, the bass drum would bleed into it. This is an amazingly accurate re-creation of drums. You gotta love it.
Actually, the "Bleed Control" on-off switch does just that. Stops the bass drum bleeding into the snare. (Why would you want to?)

One more thing: I don't understand how you made some of the drums MONO. I didn't see those controls in the EZ-drummer mixer. Do you mean on the Logic Mixer? You might as well just leave all the drums in stereo. (Probably stereo sampled.) Perhaps I am misunderstanding you about that.

I have used DKFH in several songs. It sounds huge. you will love it.

Thanks for the reply.

I am not using the ezdrummer mixer. In Logic's mixer i just made them mono ( i think) just got one L.E.D flashing instead of two. You cannot make the bass drum mono or you get no sound?

I was just concerned that with everything in stereo the drums would eat up the space for the rest on the instruments.

I am more than likely wrong as usual.

wait...

I just tried something different. You said when you solo the Bass Drum, you can hear the snare? I could not. Even with the snare in mono. (the mic is usually inside the bass drum. Wouldn't hear the snare.)
You should hear the Bass Drum bleeding into the Snare mic. not the other way around.

You might as well leave it as stereo channels. Mono would work, also. Not much difference, which is why just leave it. Actually, these drums sound so good, I did my last project with all the drums in one stereo track. Mixed it in the ez-drummer mixer. I did not need to process the drums individually, because they sounded so good.

actually, an explanation. You will have problems trying to mix with ez-drummer on multi-channels. Because ez-drummer puts all the drums in a room and blends the sounds. If you try to put the isolated snare in a drum room with a reverb plugin, it will also be in ez-drummer's room. (it will be in 2 rooms. bad).
Or, you can set ez-drummer to dry. And put it in rooms with Logic plug-ins.
But, then you lose the great drum rooms in ez-drummer. So, it might sound better to use ez-drummer in one stereo track using the rooms it has.
does that make sense?
