Canon MP620 wifi-problem on iMac

Hi,

Can't get my new MP620 to work properly using a wifi-connection to my iMac. Everything regarding the access point checks out. I'm even able to print test pages using the wifi-connection, however not standard printouts, i.e. from Office, web browser etc.

Anyone got a clue?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

I am having a very similar problem - also with a new MP620. I have tried printing using the Canon IJ network and the Default CUPS thing suggested. I am using a MacBook white 2.4GHz with 10.5.6. My error is:

using Canon IJ Network: (from printing a PDF file)

Is this the same error? Both of these errors appear in the same log file - is this OK? I did not completely reinstall the Canon IJ software as suggested, just did the stuff in System Preferences as I couldn't be bothered to go through all that hassle again. I can also print out test prints, but not from anything else. I will try plugging the pinter into to wired ethernet and see how that works....

Identical error when wired - same as the second error (after changing the stuff in sys prefs). Just different PIDs and a new Job number

Printing (via wireless) from Windows Vista Home Premium is absolutely fine. I am beginning to think this is definitely 10.5.6 or some part of Leopard.

APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS - THIS IS NOT WHY I MOVED TO MAC!!!!!! "It just works"??

Looking through your log shows you have a different fault. It appears to be internal, rather than a connection issue.

I would download the 10.5.6 Combo update and run it. When it is finished I would then open Disk Utility and run Repair Disk Permissions. I would then Reset the printing system and add the printer again via the Canon IJ Network.

The only way I have been able to generate the 306 error, is to either have my Mac set to a different subnet to the printer, or attempt to print when the printer is off.

I found there is a quiet setting for the printer via the Maintenance menu. My next test will be to see if this also causes the 306 error.

FTR - if you use the USB printer queue instead of the network queue, an Error 300 occurs. Thought this may have been a likely cause of the 306 error but this showed me that you are not accidentally using the wrong queue.

Well, the quiet mode is not the culprit. I thought it may be like a sleep mode, and when running, the printer may not be waking to a print request.

However, after testing it and finding that it still printed fine, I then read the manual and saw that is has something to do with the printer carriage only printing in one direction, rather than both, which is supposedly a means to reduce the noise coming from the machine. I guess that's important when you have rice paper walls...

I've just done this (well, not the repair disk perms) because of looking at another thread on this forum. Works now. Thank you and alexandre, who suggested it on the other post.

I have no idea why this might make it work, but it has, so I don't really care any further than that 🙂

BTW, could it have anything to do with the fact that I hardly ever shut down/restart my mac? I always just close then lid.

Good to read you got your setup working.

Re the Combo updates, they can 'fill the gaps' left by the sequential updates. This can help with resolving a number of Mac operating issues, not just printing.

Restarts can assist with improving the operation of your Mac - and any other OS. Caches can be cleared, services can be started and VM can be re-allocated. While there is no need to perform this daily, I would recommend doing it at least once a month to help with making things run smoother. Also, with a number of software installers, you do need to restart after installation so that certain core system files can be updated.

I too continue to get this problem. What i don't understand is that when i log into my router's ip address and the canon ip address it is saying that the connection is 100%. I was able to resolve this problem the first time by reinstalling the printer software but i do not want to do this each time! If there is any further assistance that can be offered i would appreciate it immensely!

A breakthrough I found that I would get a communication error (306) if my wife's iPod Touch was on (in fact it was also plugged in via usb). I have a netgear router (WGT624 v3) the iPod Touch is version 1. After turning off the iPod the communication error was gone. Also I was now able to use the Canon IJ Network Scanner Selector without getting the exclamation warning. I also was now able to add the printer in the system preferences for printers. Not sure why the two wifi devices would create this communications error. I also have my wii connected to the router but i did not have to turn it off to have the printer communication error disappear. I hope this information is going to be helpful to others.
