ipod nano keeps connecting and disconnecting HELP!

Please help, I have just bought a new ipod nano. When I connect it to my PC, the screen says "connected" then "ejecting" then "ok to disconnect" in quick succession over and over again. Windows doesn't recognize it, a bubble pops up saying "USB device not recognized" and something about the device having malfunctioned, and it doesn't show up in iTunes or My Computer.

I took it back to the shop where I bought it and got a replacement, but exactly the same thing happens. My partner and I both have ipod classics and they work perfectly with this PC. I have tried plugging it into every USB port on the computer, tried using four different cables, and re-installed iTunes.

I have spent hours and hours searching the internet for possible solutions but no luck so far. So if anybody has any ideas I would be extremely grateful!

I had the same problem and beleive it or not I fixed it following the suggestion in this link: http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?p=1271391

Had exactly same problem, managed to fix it by holding ipod in left hand and hitting it right side on into my right palm a couple of times then it sprung to life and my songs and all still there no need to restore. it seems to me the hardrive arm gets stuck on these ipods and needs a little shock to get it moving again. If you turn it on, when the apple comes up on the dark screen and before the sad face put the ipod to your ear and you can hear the drive trying to start up and then stop when the sad face comes up. Anyway, it may sound harsh but its that or new hardrive. give it a try. mine has been working great since the fix.

nope, this doesn't fix it for me. my ipod works on my old usb 1.0 ports, but keeps connecting and disconnecting when connected to a pcmcia usb2.0 card. can't see how this is a HD-problem, even tried to beat it towards my table a couple of times.. why can't apple intervene here and help us out? this is extremely frustrating, my first apple experience is ******* me off
