ipod nano keeps connecting and disconnecting HELP!

Please help, I have just bought a new ipod nano. When I connect it to my PC, the screen says "connected" then "ejecting" then "ok to disconnect" in quick succession over and over again. Windows doesn't recognize it, a bubble pops up saying "USB device not recognized" and something about the device having malfunctioned, and it doesn't show up in iTunes or My Computer.

I took it back to the shop where I bought it and got a replacement, but exactly the same thing happens. My partner and I both have ipod classics and they work perfectly with this PC. I have tried plugging it into every USB port on the computer, tried using four different cables, and re-installed iTunes.

I have spent hours and hours searching the internet for possible solutions but no luck so far. So if anybody has any ideas I would be extremely grateful!

I have exactly the same problem but I am using Vista. I can't even charge the nano yet everything works perfectly on my friend's computer also running Vista. I have also checked it out on another computer using XP and it works fine. Like you, I have tried to find a solution in the web to no avail. If you do find a fix please let me know.

have run the 5 r's quite a few times now, nothing works. the exact same thing happens with the ipod in disk mode, it keeps connecting and disconnecting. i don't get any summary screen as the computer does not "hold on to" the ipod for more than 1-2 seconds. i have also tried to update all drivers under "universal serial bus controllers" in the device manager.

So I am NOT alone! I have 4 earlier iPods and all work perfectly except for my new iPod nano 4th Gen. I have also tried several fixes and spent a couple of hours with applecare. Tech guy suggested I buy a powered usb. Bought one online and will see if that addresses the problem. Applecare informed me that ipod touch has the same problems.
