Sleep mode issue - won't go to sleep

I can manually put my Mac Pro to sleep but it will not go to sleep on it's own with the prescribed time set in the power settings. I leave it for long periods thinking it will sleep on its own, but come back to find the monitor has been asleep, but not the computer. I have unplugged everything from the back of the unit for a time to discharge the tower, I have reset the Safari plist preferences, and I have repaired permissions. Probably not a huge concern here, but it was working properly a few days ago. Any suggestions?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

I too have this problem. I tried everything on this board and still no sleep at the designated interval in the energy pref pane. It sleeps when i choose itfrom the apple menu, and when scheduled, but otherwise no dice.

I am going to do a complete, fresh, install of SL. New user account, fresh application installations, EVERYTHING. I HAVE WASTED SO MUCH TIME DEALING WITH SNOW LEOPARD AND MY NEW $3500 MACHINE!

I am wondering, it seems clear that this has something to do with hardware, as we all have '09 mac pro's. I am curious how many '09 mac pro quads DO NOT have this problem...

...is the problem solvable with software or is it a hardware issue?

thanks,
r.
