Hyperlink in Table of Contents

I've searched the forums, the internet, and the Pages '08 User Guide. Unfortunately, I haven't found an exact answer to what I would like to do.

In the User Guide, it states that when exporting a Pages document with a Table of Contents to PDF, the entries in the Table of Contents become hyperlinks. I have tried recreate this behavior by using bookmarks and trying to link them to the Table of Contents entries, but when a heading is selected in the Table of Contents, all similar headings are also selected. This unfortunately prevents linking a particular heading with a particular bookmark. Is there not a way to create hyperlinks in the Table of Contents when working in the document?

Thanks in advance.

It seams that you didn't understood the Help which states:

The Help doen't states that the export creates links between TOC and embedded bookmarks.

It states that:

• TOC's entries are exported as bhyperlinks
• footnotes/endnotes callers are exported as hyperlinks
• links to wep pages are exported as hyperlinks
• links to emails are exported as hyperlinks
• bookmarks are exported as hyperlinks

no less, no more.

When you export a Pages document on a computer with Mac OS X version 10.4 or

later, hyperlinks are exported.
I checked, this feature behaves flawlessly

Hyperlinks are created in the PDF document for table of contents entries,

Thanks Yvan for your rapid response. Yes, I understand that the TOC entries become hyperlinks when the Pages document is exported, but can we not create hyperlinks in the TOC for use in the document itself without having to export?

I work in research, and sometimes my documents are very long. Being able to view the location of a particular experiment in the TOC is beneficial, but it would be a time saver if I could view the location as well as link to that location.

I realize this is a user forum, so thank you again for your response.

If you apply to this location a style which is included in those generating an entry in the TOC, you will have the wanted link in the exported PDF.

Everything works as expected when I export to PDF, but if I export to PDF, I can no longer work with the document. I want to keep my document as a Pages document so that I can make changes (ex: addition or deletion of tables/charts) if needed as is commonly the case in research. I would like for the TOC entries in the Pages document to be hyperlinks without having to export to PDF or any other document type.

Thanks again.

This feature is unavailable but you may easily mimic it.

Before the point of insertion of the TOC, you may insert hyperlinks pointing to every bookmarked location which you wish to reach quickly.
