Apple TV Overall Satisfaction?

I'm thinking about buying Apple TV, but after seeing all of the problems posted on this board, I'm having second thoughts. Do you guys think its worth the money? Has anyone compared it to Playstation 3 or know if PS3 is even compatible with mac?

I've been researching both and it seems like PS3 is quite a bit more bang for the buck, but haven't yet been able to confirm how compatible it is with Macs as far as iTunes and iPhoto goes. Any thoughts?

Hi gonzo80_19. You mentioned something about Apple TV being able to surf the internet in the future and I have been looking into an add-on I found. It is called aTV Flash and is supposed to open up multiple possibilities with the Apple TV (including surfing the internet) all while avoiding the forfeit of its warranty. I haven't tried it myself yet as I am still debating on whether or not to purchase and Apple TV also, but it is definitely attractive. Here is the link, hope it is what you were looking for.

I have had the ATV since it first came out.

I think Apple could do so much more - like the previous post you can buy ATV Flash which lets you surf the net and play other types of files, and I believe hook a drive up to the USB.

Converting to h264 is a bit of a pain but its great quality and efficient on space.

However I am frustrated with Apple as for me, Apple TV could do so much more - it should have Safari on it by now.

🙂

An aspect not mentioned in this thread so far is the audio capability of Apple TV.
I've had one for a couple of years and was initially very impressed by Apple's forward thinking. I use Airtunes controlled by an iPod touch; the stream via ethernet to Airport Extreme then 802.11n wireless to Apple TV works faultlessly.
Now I am extremely dissatisfied because Apple have taken no steps to upgrade the audio performance of ATV. As far as I am aware Apple TV runs a cut-down version of OSX with (presumably) Core Audio built in. Why oh why has no enhancement been added to allow control of the digital output so that 24 bit / 96 kHz audio may be selected (as one can do on any current Mac computer)?!
