screen flicker resolved?

Anyone get a definitive yet on the MBP screen flicker issue?
Travel back to the Apple store or wait for update?
Got a new 2.8Ghz and when it wakes up from sleep the their is a slight flicker you notice especially on a more solid desktop image.

After several minutes it seems to reduce but is still noticeable enough to be annoying.

Hey all,

I'm having kind of a similar issue with my late-'08 MacBook Pro. I use the computer for DJing small parties around the Temple University, Philadelphia area, but I do have school work and such on it as well.

My problem is this: at the last two gigs I've played using Virtual DJ, I've seen my display "blink" (for lack of a better word). The screen is on, goes entirely black for less than a second, and then comes right back on. Nothing else is effected when this happens: the program keeps on chugging with no problems. In both cases the "blink" happened only once the whole night. The first instance I dismissed away as an illusion due to myself blinking; however, there was no mistaking the second instance.

What might cause these "blinks"? I'm very worried that they may get more frequent, or may herald a bigger problem.

Thanks in advance,

dfieman

Hi all,

I have the random blinking screen problem with my macbook pro unibody also. I brought it back to the Apple store today at Westfield (London, UK) and the genius acknowledged the problem and took it in for a replacement logic board. I've been quoted up to 2 weeks to wait for the repair but as soon as I get it back I will post the result. Hopefully the issue will be fixed.

To be clear, the problem only happens on the less powered graphics card and I see either the whole screen going black for a fraction of a second, or sometimes the top half of the screen goes black. Also sometimes I can see small artifacts.

Anyone who has these problems should bring their machine back for repair or replacement.

For the most part changing from Better Battery Life to Better Performance and setting the screen as bright as it will go seems to take away most of the flicker I was experiencing. There is still some flicker but at least it's not driving me crazy now when I work at night in a darker room.
For some this might be the easiest fix. I still believe though that the graphics card plays a major role in the problem.

Definitely a backlighting issue here.

It's started doing it on mains power, and not only on the lowest setting, but on whatever setting is current when ... it starts doing it.

Turning it all the way up, then back sometimes helps. Turning it all the way down and back sometimes happens.

Also no longer at 1:30 remaining, power, sometimes at 2:30.

Apple have done phone-based troubleshooting and have determined that it's a hardware fault. Giben the age of the machine (less than 30 days) I've pressed them to agree to replace the entire machine, so we'll see what happens.
