Adding subtitles to iMovie project

I have downloaded a movie clip from youtube that is in german and I want to add subtitles to it, but I don't seem to be able figure out how. I have iMovie '08.

I know I can add titles, but I want to add subtitles that go with the speech on the clip.

Step by step please because I am none-too-swift with this stuff.

Thanks in advance 🙂

If you want to do it Movie '08, use one of the lower-third titles. As iMovie '08 may have problems adding several "subtitle" titles to the same video clip, it may be necessary to split video clips into smaller block segments using the "Split" option and then addi the appropriate "subtitles" to each segment to match the associated main clip audio. If you want to do the subtitles externally as a post-edit, you can create a separate "Text" track using QT Pro -- but this is a bit more involved.

Just do the same thing you would do to create a normal title over your video but use one of the title options that display near the bottom of the screen area.

Hi, thanks for the response. I ended up using one of the title options and just altered the text size in order to make it look like a real subtitle. I know there has to be a more efficient way to do it than the way that I did it because it took a long time.

I had then entire clip in the 'upper' section and then dragged (sp?)the titles into that section and then I applied them as they were needed. I found that you couldn't just pop them where you wanted them right off the bat, you had to either add the speech sections at the beginning or at the end of the entire clip and them move them from there.

Is that really the case or does anyone know a better way?

Thanks.
