I've heard that the ipod touch 1G does not have the hardware to support a mic. Is this true, or can a mic be made to work with an ipod touch 1G? I have a griffin smarttalk mic that works with the ipod touch 2G, but will this type of device (not just the smarttalk, but any similar device) work with an ipod touch 1G?
thanks!

Great, this is good to know. So what you're saying is that the 1st Gen touch has the necessary hardware to support a mic? And do you know which mics work, or of a way to tell if a certain mic will work?
Hi, I am another ipod touch 1st generation user who is looking for a compatible mic and headphones so that I can make voice recordings. I bought the application called "Voxie" from the applications store without realizing that I needed to have a compatible mic with ipod touch 1st generation. However, up until now, I have had no luck in finding one. Also, while I was looking for this I was told that ipod touch 1st generation did not support mics. Therefore, when I read your message here to 'Tyler'(?) letting him know that there are mics to support the 1st generation, I thought that may be you could tell me which mics to buy? Or, give me some more information on this subject.
Hi maddy64: I beleive the only type of Mic to work with the 1st generation iPod Touch is the type that connect via the dock connector, not the headphone jack.
Thanks for your message. Do you know off hand any particular models/make of mics that I may buy that will work with the 1st generation ipod touch, so that I may make voice recordings? Also, would I need compatible headphones too?
I am using an iVoice III mic with my Touch 1g. It worked straight away with Fring, out of the box.
I also changed the .plist file inside the .ipa folder so that the 4 track recording app from Sonoma Wire Works would load onto my Touch. This is the best app ever and brilliant for anyone remotely interested in songwriting or practicing harmonies.
Shazam, as yet won't work. I can get it onto the Touch but it's refusing to recognise the mic.
i'm not sure i'd agree with your 'minority' assessment. there are plenty 1Gen users on here, although (without detailed study) i would say there do seem to be more problems with th 2Gens (therefore fewer 1G users on these forums where people come to ask about their problems)
