I can receive mail but can not send mail

When I try send mail I get a message that states the following:
Connections to the server “smtp.frontiernet.net” on the default ports failed (error 54: Connection reset by peer)
Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be delivered.

Also in accounts it states the that smtp server is offline.

Ron,

Edit the list of SMTP to remove all that currently exist for Frontier, and then set it up again, being sure to follow the instructions in their support link at:

http://www.frontierhelp.com/usertools.cfm?qstid=637&catid=306

Mail is not the only email client with problems with the Frontier SMTP -- see:

http://forums.techarena.in/windows-vista-mail/1041257.htm

I doubt that there is actually a problem with the Mail application despite their pronouncement.

Can I get that number? Or, can you please post what the solution was?

I'm having the same problem (can receive on all but one account, can send on all) not getting anywhere with Time Warner (in Los Angeles). Interesting thing is, one of my other accounts is on the same physical server as the one that isn't working (just a different domain name).

Had the same trouble in Washington DC (lived there last year) with Comcast -- it's very common. Wish I could remember what the fix was, although I doubt it's a "one size fits all" thing -- each ISP will take different measures in the name of protecting their outgoing mail servers.

Ugh.

I'm not sure what did it, but the problem went away. I tried sending mail through webmail and it worked fine. So I started playing with ports, and using authentication.. the settings aren't any different now than when it wasn't working (although, now I'm specifying to use only use 25; was using the "25, 4xx, or 587" setting before), but suddenly it works.

Thanks, for checking in on it, though! 🙂
