YUY2 uncompressed avi

I've already posted this in the quicktime section, but haven't had any answers, so I'm hoping that some of you clever people here will have some solutions:

How do I view (and convert!) this file? (Uncompressed YUY2 AVI, 3 minutes-ish long.) I have Perian installed along with some other codecs and VLC player. At the moment QT plays some audio only - the film comes up black. In VLC player the film comes up but stutters. In Mpeg-Streamclip I get only a white screen.

Any ideas?

After some more looking around, it turns out that this is a canopus codec issue.
The person who sent me this clip sent me another that was DV compressed, with the same issue.
This time the clip could be viewed in vlc player, but I had to use a windows only codec to do anything with it.

Hi Josh,

I have exactly the same problem. I have video files in AVi format with YUY2 codec...same white screen in streamclip, black in QT etc.

Is there anyway I can convert these files? I didn't quite understand your point about windows only codec.

Any help would be much appreciated!

You cannot convert files on a Mac with a Windows only codec. You need to find a PC with the codec installed on it in order to do any conversions. This is not an Apple issue, rather an issue that lies with the developer of the codec in question.

I ran into the same problem. Downloaded all quicktime codecs and nothing.

Finally used VLC. It not only plays it but also you can use the Export Wizard to convert it to MP4 for example. Now it works nice.
