To NWB1:
Thank you for your suggestion. But unless you're planning to purchase said MacBook Air for me, STFU. Your comment is not helpful for someone who just purchased a new MacBook Pro and can't just run out an buy an Air, too.
My 17 is almost unusable compared to my 2010 model. Edges are sharp as a dull razor. To adapt I wear bicycle gloves. Why would the edge lip change over a two year period? Apple should stick with creating great performance and keep what works well alone. My current $5k investment is a 7 out of 10.
Went to Apple store in 2011, tried the aluminum computers, and I remember thinking, this is going to cut into my wrists, and it's one of the reasons I ended up buying a white macbook. After reading post after post of people saying the edge gets painful for them, I am so thankful I went with the white unibody, as I would not want to have that problem. It's now about two years later. My white macbook has not given my a single problem in all this time, not a single one. Best laptop I've ever owned hands down.
Your claim that it's the same with the white unibody is not true, at least on mine. Not once has the edge bothered me, whereas the aluminum did.
it's guesstimate.
