Using a LG W1942 monitor with MacBook

I bought the monitor so that I could work with several windows open at once. But the image on the monitor is exactly the same as the image on the Macbook, just larger. How can I change the display sizes on either? I am already using 1440X900 resolution, which is the highest available on the machine? Thanks

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.6)

Hi jdb331: With your external display connected, go to System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement, at the bottom of that box turn off "Mirror Displays". You can now set the resolution on the external independently from the MacBook. You can also drag any open windows or programs to the external monitor.

Hope this helps
